Xbee 2.4 wroks only when APM is powered by USB

The xbee's only talk to each other when the APM is powered by the USB port, I then power the APM by the Servo rails and the xbees will not talk to each other.

What could possibley be the issue here.

Set up

Firmware XBEE Pro 802.15.4 Version 10ED

Baud Rate 57600

Season Two of the Trust Time Trial (T3) Contest has now begun. The fourth round is an accuracy round for multicopters, which requires contestants to fly a cube. The deadline is April 14th.
