Hi everyone,
For a student project, I had to make an arducopter, all is fine ... without the Xbee modules.
In fact, I can't get them comunicate in the two ways. I succeeded to receive something from the APM board but I can't transmit something to it, so when I try to connect using Mission Planner, It says "Getting params[...]" and then in the console I can read "Lost xxx pkts xxx" and, after a while it says "Read timeout[...]".
I tried the test code and I can get the "port 3" message so the communication on this way is working fine.
I have two Xbee Serie 2 rev.F modules, A xtreambee FTDI adapter and another USB adapter for the computer.
I checked the connections between the FTDI adapter and the APM, all is ok.
As some people said, I solded the CTS and the VIN pins.
Regards

Same thing with mine..
My quad flies great, everything works as expected...
I've connected serial3 from APM to FTDI-USB to PC, and it works fine.
In qgroundcontrol i do get an connection , but lots of garbled data.
I've tried 57k6 and 115k2 , no difference.
My Xbees are the PRO S2B rev. B, the one connected to pc is configured as Coordinator AT, and the APM XBee as End device AT.
This was the only setup i could get a connection with...
best regards, Kiki
Permalink Reply by kiki on February 17, 2012 at 9:25am Last night i wanted to do some tests, but one of my XBees died...
can't read or reprogram the XBee with x-ctu, lights do light up, link is established, but no data transfer.
I think the crc errors where already a hardware problem in 1 one my xbees, and now it completely died..
but no problem, cause i ordered 2 XBee Pro 868'es. (range up to 40KM!)
i'll let jou know if they work as expected or not..
Permalink Reply by Chydra on February 22, 2012 at 4:04am Maybe my Xbee's are too died, isn't it ?
I'll order some XBee S1 I think, because S2 are too complicated for what I want to do ...
Permalink Reply by Chydra on February 22, 2012 at 9:28am Is it possible to use them with a serie 1 firmware ?
We could test if the problem is an hardware problem or just a firmware.
Permalink Reply by kiki on February 22, 2012 at 9:52am I'm still waiting form my new XBees, but i dont think you can upload Series1 FW ..
As for my old ones .. suddenly they worked again, but very bad connection ..
So its definetly a HW problem...
Permalink Reply by Chydra on February 23, 2012 at 5:13am My Xbees are now working in both ways, but I get something like that :
"
U8
"
So I think there's a problem.
What should I see ?
Permalink Reply by Chydra on March 7, 2012 at 12:24pm I received my new XBee Series 1, I have the same problem : When I try to connect with APM Mission Planner I have this :
"INFO ArdupilotMega.MAVLink - lost 31 pkts 284
INFO ArdupilotMega.MAVLink - MAVLINK: S wait time out btr 0 len 0
INFO ArdupilotMega.MAVLink - MAVLink readpacket read error: Timeout
INFO ArdupilotMega.MAVLink - Mavlink Bad Packet (crc fail) len 0 crc 65535 pkno

And it says "Connect Failed" but I have some heartbeat because it says before : "getting params [...]"
I'm going to be crazy and It have to work for next monday ! Can some people help me ?
Permalink Reply by Quentin Mayberry on March 13, 2012 at 12:54am I have just created my own quad and am using an apm 2 and a spektrum dx8, AR7000 and TM1000 telemetry module. I couldn't get an xbee connection at all.
This was strange as I regularly fly an aircraft with arduplane and xbee's pro s2's and a futaba tx with spektrum module, a spektrum AR7000 receiver in the aircraft and that works fine.
Finally in desperation, I removed the receiver & telemetry module and tried that, success, it connected but was still losing some packets. There seems to be an interference issue with 2.4ghz, haven't worked it out yet if it is my router, phones or what.
Permalink Reply by Chydra on March 14, 2012 at 10:39am I successed to have a connection with fully 100% on range test, but I can't connect with APM Mission Planner and this part have to work for sunday ...
Any suggestion ?
thanks
Permalink Reply by Quentin Mayberry on March 14, 2012 at 1:44pm Turned out to be a faulty receiver, works fine with a new one.
Permalink Reply by Chydra on May 8, 2012 at 6:57am Hi bypbop,
I tried some other tests, and I now have a reception from the drone to the Ground Control, but I can't send something to it, so I can't connect with APMission Planner but i can see the virtual horizon and the parameters (read only) with QGroundControl.
Best Regards
