Hi all
A friend of mine, an electrical engineer, referred me to this product:
http://www.digi.com/products/wireless-wired-embedded-solutions/zigb...
It's a XBee Pro on 868mhz, with a high power output capable of reaching 80km LoS.
Are these modules interchangeable, should I be able to follow the same configuration procedure as with the classing Xbee Pro 900mhz?
Who needs 3G :)

Permalink Reply by Michael Pursifull on February 6, 2012 at 3:59am xbee pro 900, yes, I think it is not permitted; I think most EU residents use 2.4Ghz models
Permalink Reply by Hein du Plessis on February 6, 2012 at 11:50pm Only about 20mW is allowed in UK and Germany etc, wheras the 2.4ghz XBee is 50mW, so they're out on both counts!
Permalink Reply by Wojciech on February 6, 2012 at 4:31am Hi,
I do already have Xbee868 connected to APM 1.0 via xtreembee on the test bench. It is compatibile in case of pinout, and software. However it needs external power source ,(XBee868 needs up to 800mA on full 300mW Tx power) xtreembee onboard voltage regulator is insufficient. Now I'm trying to overcome duty cycle.
Does anybody have working code with reset procedure implemented? Please share or PM me
Best Regards,
Wojtek

Permalink Reply by Wojciech on February 7, 2012 at 5:59am It needs 3.3V, typical RC 5V UBEC would fry it!
Now I don't use external power at all because on lowest tx power Xtreembee voltage regulator is ok.
Even with this tx power set its really powerful - xbees must be separated by 7m or more to communicate (when closer received signal is too powerful) . Link on 5mW works flawless throught 3 to 4 solid brick walls (around 95% packets received).
Permalink Reply by Hein du Plessis on February 7, 2012 at 10:50pm There are many 3.3V UBECs to choose from, I'm sure there'll be one with 5AMP, otherwise 3A should be fine, too, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=...

Can you honestly say that you care? i wouldn't give a shit.
Cops have got no idea, and i doubt the FCC is driving around sporting ovals and paddocks looking for people over the power limit.
