Y6 having incredibly bad yaw issues

Converted my Hexa-b into a Y6 with no luck so far.  The frame is set up properly, the motors are all turning the right way and the sensors are all calibrated correctly along with the radio.

As soon as I lift off there the frame goes into an immediate right hand yaw which I cannot control.  The yawing force seems to increase with throttle.  All the motors respond properly to the CLI motors test and the correct props are on.  I have tried both configurations of rear props, currently using a symmetrical approach with all the top motors turning CW and all bottom motors CCW.

Running stock 3.0.1 code on APM 2.5 hardware with uBlox

Here is a vid of what is happening:

I have stripped and rebuilt the machine several times and all indications are good that all is in order.  Out of ideas, would love some input from people smarter than me.

Cheers,

Mike

PS: 11x4.7 props on top and bottom

  • I'm having this exact same problem. Built and rebuilt, changed motor directions, but nothing seems to allow me to yaw right. Any stick input seems to have no effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • Nick,

The only thing I did was to re-flash the code.  Funny thing was that I had no errors on initial flash and everything seemed to be working fine except for the flight issues.  Once I started over and re-flashed, the problem went away.

I can only assume there was an issue with the initial flash that somehow escaped reporting and was corrected when I re-flashed.

I'd be curious if that also works for you.

  • Mike, are your bottom props mounted correctly ? Can you read the embossed prop size from top ?

  • Are you sure all the motors are vertical?  any twist will cause a yawing moment.
