A few days ago I received my Arducopter from uDrones. I'd sure appreciate any suggestions as to what power source folks are using. I have a balancing charger so I would be looking for packs w/ a balance charging attachment. I would be interersted to know how many mah are recommended for this copter.
P.S. any linkages to vendors will be appreciated.
I like 5000mah 3s packs myself, 20c is fine. Usually lower "c" is lighter
I've had excellent results with these $24 ones from hobbyking.
You can get better ones, but I've found those to be the best value for standard sized quads.
I fly with two of them.
I use either Turnigy 5000mAh or 3000mAh 25C 3S packs, the 5000's have had 160+ cycles and after a flight of around 11 minutes I return ~3400mAh into the pack (I fly religiously to 10.3v or 3.4v per cell). The 3000's have had 40+ cycles, fly about 9 minutes to 10.3v, return ~2400mAh to the packs.
The 5000's are heavy and old so flight times are shorter than expected. Hover current is 13-15A with 1.3kg quad peaking at 40+A on full power climbout.
3S is the general reccomendation. 2200+ goes upwards, have quick look at ecalc.ch put in the numbers and see what you would like to have...
Turnigy, Zippy or other brands would work. Not sure of geographic location, else could suggest places. I tend to use gaintcod.co.uk very good prices..
Any of the Nanotech series of lipo packs from Hobbyking is good. You want at least 25C discharge rate and a 3S 11.4v pack.
Here's the one I fly with, and on my custom frame with 1200kv motors, I get typically 10 minutes or so of flight time:
