Is anyone using this frame? I got it but am in doubt about which motors to use.

http://www.goodluckbuy.com/butterfly-x250-330mm-shaft-mini-quadcopt...

I got it with the intention to use my little tiny hobbyking motors that I had on jose's mini frame but I think this frame was intended for slightly bigger motors and those were really fragile and the mounting holes in the frame were bigger than the motor.

Also I don't want to use prop savers because those o rings always brake when least expected :)

So anyone found some good motors that would fit this? I plan to put APM2 on it and probably with 22003S or 4S battery.

Maybe this with some 5" GWS5043 props. http://www.goodluckbuy.com/flylite-2804-1750kv-outrunner-brushless-... and 10amp turnigy ESC's.

It looks similar to but smaller than the gaui 330sx I used to fly.

It used 1020KV scorpion motors, quite small (cant remember) drawing less than 10A each anyway. Blades were 8". It would fly on 2S or 3S batteries. My point is that that blade and motor combination was quite lively to fly on 3S and I would recommend the 2S batter set up for less experienced pilots.

I built exactly the same frame and used 9g Micro brushless motor A1504 2900KV with the Turnigy 10A esc's and the handy programmer for the same. Works exceptionally well with 2S1P 1000mAh turnigy nano tech, gives 7 minutes with an APM2 and the 5030 three blade props. I also have some 6030 props but havn't tried those yet.

The good news is the PIDs at least from 2.5.5 are pretty much unchanged, maybe a tweak downward on the rate P but it should fly out of the box with that setup.

The nano tech's really are the nuts.

I also tried a Turnigy 1000mAh 3S1P, a heavier pack but gives a more sporty grunt to the performance, and 6 minutes of abuse. Motors and escs warm but not hot.

You need to drill some 3mm holes for the mounting, tighten the nylon threads carefully, loose is better than broke.

A couple of velcro straps for the pack and you are up and away.

Hovers nice in a small room and is amazingly windproof outside.

I'll try and take a few snaps of it when I get back to the lab :-)

Something like these? These seem great for the price but the mounting distance of the holes seem like the same as the little ones I already have. I should just use them but didn't want to adapt the mounting holes. The holes in the frame seem to be 24mm and these motors are 18mm. How did you mount yours? Do you have a picture?

And these are the ones I have that I intended to go on this frame. Then when I got the frame I thought it would be better to get one with 24mm holes spacing.

I don't like the fragility of them but I've gotten good at rewinding them :)

Found these with 23mm and 24mm holes if I'm looking at the specs right. They should fit on the mounting holes directly.

24mm but looks like prop saver only

This seems better for 3S and also can use collet. I think it would be ok on my turnigy 10A ESCs.

22mm mounting holes should be close enough for this frame.

$10

I think the max I can go on this frame is 5" props which I have plus also have some 3 blade 5".

These are the motors I used.

Note the 3 point mountings. I don't think you will find a 4 point mount to fit the frame unless you make an adaptor plate, but thats extra weight and you really need to keep it nimble.

I think the 6 inch props (3 blade) will go on, I'll fit one and let you know.

I tried to upload a bunch of pics of it last night but alas microsoft got in the way of that and a permanent hour glass was all I could see :/

I'll try again with lower res tonight.

I've narrowed it down to these choices.

All about the same price but not sure about quality. Also seems they would all mount with little adaption.

I'm definitely planning to use 3S of various sizes up to 2200mAh if possible. And with 5 or 6" props if you see they fit. I just didn't want a lot of disturbance because of the props being to close together. I heard that can cause stabilization problems.

Should I look for a higher KV or lower? I should go higher KV with smaller props right? I just plan to carry the APM1, GPS and maybe xbee.

Sorry still havn't had the slot to upload pics.

Looking at your requirements, I'd say that your frame with 10A esc's and A1504 motors won't carry much additional weight, but I think will happily carry your APM1 GPS and Xbee.

If you also want to run with a 2200 3s the weight of it will kill the performance and you will need some revs out of the props to stay aloft.

(heat and pain for motor and esc and you dont get to fly any longer than with a 2S imho)

If you were to use a 2S2P nanotech small and light ( a pair of 1000mAh 2S1P in parallel) then I would estimate a minimum run time of 12  minutes with the payload you intend and still inside the limit of reliable motor and esc.

The higher wattage slower motors 1700 / 2200KV will work well with 3S and 6" props, but will the ESC cope with the load and what of the smaller clearance between props? I would need to investigate and will do if I get a slot this w/e

Either way if you use a higher wattage motor it will still need to spin fast to keep the weight in the air, so a higher KV motor with the 5" props and a 3s will do that, the 10A esc's might get toasty though.

Hi F11, I hope this link to my album works and you can see some pics I took of the X250 props and motors.

It just so happens to have a KK board on it at the moment (great trainer on this bird) ,I can switch it with an APM2 using the holes you can see drilled into the frame top plate. This small frame can just take the APM2 in X config, I think you might have a problem mounting it as + config.

As you can see the motor is about the size of a UK penny and these are the 2900kv which I think are well suited to 2S lipo's and the 5 inch tri-blade props. Some of the pictures show a 6 inch prop balanced over the 5 inch for comparison.  You can see the clearance between 5 inch and 6 inch props corner to corner and corner to centre.

I think the 6 inch props will work really well with a 2200kv and 2S or 3S I wish I had loads of time to try everything :-)

Thanks Carl but the album doesn't display.

Oops I am a noob with the album setup. I just took a closer look at the privacy settings and fixed them to anyone. I hope it works now.

X250 Album

Thanks! The pictures are very helpful. I just ordered this so with my 10A ESC's and APM I should be all set. I have a kk board also so might try that first though I like APM much better :)
