Hey all,

Things with the UAV are going very well, to the point where i'm now needing to trial it in locations that won't involve a car.  Has anyone come across a decent carry case (let's start with a 3DR quad size) that would survive travelling on a plane?  It's would be fine to take the props off, but that's it.

I have seen the Pelican Cases around the place from my photography days, but just thought I would throw it out there to the user group to see if there are other options.

Many thanks,
David.

PS: Please stay on topic.  This isn't a thread about transporting LIPO batteries on aircraft, rules and regulations of travelling with a quad on a plane (or into other countries).  Assume that's all taken care of.

I have been using a Pelican 0340 cube case.  It fits my quadcopter, 2 remotes, a laptop, 3 batteries, the charger, the camera gimbal, GoPro, and all of the misc. tools and cables with the added lid pocket insert.  You need to take the propellers offs but it isn't that big of a deal.

I haven't taken it on a plane trip yet but I am more than sure that it will survive with flying colors.  Just worried that my new hexcopter won't fit in it.

Hi Dave,

I'm not using a case for my quads at the moment, however I do use Storm cases for some of my other robots, in particular our very expensive Nao robots. I have 4 of the Storm IM2720 cases and they're great for travel (wheels, extensible handle, auto-pressure release valve, very rugged). If you get them with the foam it's pick-n-pull, so you can make cavities and layers as you need/like. With a case this large as well, you wouldn't need to remove props... or go for a smaller, cheaper version and switch to the prop retainers David S. is using/promoting.

I have a folding frame so it fits in an aluminum rifle case made for 2 short rifles, and my radio fits too. You might want to look a bow cases from a sports store, they are quite large and are foam lined.  Not as pretty or durable as Pelican, Storm or UK but lighter and cheaper.

SKB makes quality cases.  I would look up the size you need on their website and then buy it on Ebay.
