Hello world.Firstly, I'm new to this (oh great I can hear everyone say) haha.... and I'm not asking this because I'm dumb. I'm quite a nerd when it comes to technical things. However as simple as it…Continue

Arducopter 3Dr or Phantom

Started by Fred LeFevre. Last reply by Hugues 19 hours ago. 15 Replies

I've been planning on getting a phantom for sometime but recently it was suggested that I look at the arducopter. I've been doing some research and like the 3dr quad and hex rtf version. But I'm not…Continue

Andreas: Yes, the software side looks fine. I'm mostly curious about how people have integrated the hardware/LEDs into their copters.

I got one (jDrones IO board) and I'm trying out the new MAVLink-capable firmware for it.

Have you seen the online documentation?

Anybody using the jdrones IOboard (LED driver) with ArduCopter? I just got three and am looking for tips on how to use.

I feel like I'm having a mental block trying to figure out what's going on with Seyan's copter. He's had it running for some time, and recently it started having problems with stability. Can someone take a look at his post and see if you can spot the issue? I didn't ask if his filters are soldered, but I feel like this is a problem I've seen, and just cannot remember where/why.

Bradley: Nice work! You have come a long way in a short amount of time. Glad it went well :-)

Just made my first FPV flight yesterday with my 3Dr quad.  I must say I have practiced this on my Real Flight software and was comfortable to try on my quad.  After getting off the ground I think I just about soiled my shorts!!!  Way different than the simulation.  Made successful flight!  But I was shaking before I was done.  Thanks for Alt_hold and RTL.  My quad was safely returned to ground with no harm done.

Gustav, I agree.  My APM2 quad has been sitting for a few weeks now, because it worked extremely well for me.

In those weeks, I took the APM1 that was in the quad, and moved it to a Zephyr II.  It's fun to watch that thing come back and circle over-head.  Good FPV confidence builder. The minim/arducam OSD has been working well for me too.

We should make a map of people who are willing to be "local help".  It would be good to meet others, and help pass on some of the basics.

Anyone done a world-wide map like that before on the web?  Seems like it would be most effective integrated into the support arm of the wiki/forums on this site, but that's not my call.

Just a thought.  I'd sign up to help out.

Same old, same old..

After having a beer or six too many, I flashed the latest code using Micheal Oborne's fine MP into my stock standard quad, setup using the the default(old) values, and proceeded to hover in my small living room.

Very stable, no yaw issues, best/crisp throttle response ever.

I'm using a DX8 with telem on the flight pack, flew until the battery warning came on.

So I'm going to have to say this...

If your quad/hexa/octo, in stab mode,  does weird things like falling out the sky, flipping over, yaws like a drunken sailor (or me, tonight), you did something wrong.

Not using recommended parts, prop rotation wrong, motors not soldered properly, ESC's not calibrated correctly, batteries not rated for the current draw, batteries flat/not charged correctly, wiring incorrect/too thin/bad solder joints.

I've been in the AP scene almost exactly one year now, and RC since 1980.

In this year my quad crashed exactly twice, a prop came off the front motor, and the power lead pulled out of the APM.(ok, I did fiddle with the wiring prior, and didn't check)

And another two or three where I flew into trees.( Hey, my backyard is only slightly larger than my living room:-( )

I suppose, what I'm trying to say, is, unless you have a pre-assembled and checked quad/etc., and you have problems, it is due to your own build.

I do repairs/builds for a LHS, and we've had exactly one factory fault apm.

If you are having problems, I bet there are stacks of APM type people near where you fly.

And SEEING the quad/whatever, probably is a much faster way to diagnose your problem, than posting on the forums.

I for one, don't mind trying to help on the forum, but I would much rather put an eyeball on the actual aircraft.

Nobody is going to think less of you doing it this way, unless you don't follow the given advice !

Hi...

Are the UART0 and UART0/2 Pins are the same?!? Can I connect minimOSD to the one and 3DRadio to the other?!?

Thomas: Try doing the MP setup again. You may have your + and x setting reversed.
