I've been trying to use the manual and search Jean-Louis's blog but it seems like there's not enough information on the manual and too much information hidden all across the internet.

I'm hoping when I'm done to post my detailed exploits with the Ardurover 2 because I started in May not knowing this even existed and now I'm almost done

My xbee is soldered, connected to the APM which is connected to a random laptop (because I  haven't gotten a separate battery yet). The other half of the xbee is also soldered and connected to the Ground Station laptop. There are lots of lights the blues are always on, occasionally red lights come on. using MP 0.9 (MP 1.0 ruined everything so I just want to stick with a version and an ardu firmware that works together), COM port 6, and baud rate 57k I press connect and it times out at 30s. X-CTU says communication with Modem is okay and the manual says there's no reason that this shouldn't work

^Confused and running out of time before school starts^

If you're using APM 2, please note that you can't use wireless telemetry when the USB cable is plugged in (they share the same serial port). If you're using APM 1, you can.

Even when the APM 2 is connected to another computer? (I'm not questioning your input I just really have no idea). We're working on getting a battery, in the meantime would it be safe to use a wall outlet AC adapter such as for a cell phone. It uses the same USB-to-micro usb connection so despite the input (outlet instead of computer) I'd think it would output the same voltage and current

Yes. You cannot use the USB port at all (even just for power) if you want to use wireless telemetry. The onboard multiplexer will turn off the wireless port if it senses anything on the USB.
