I don't necessarily believe throwing more hardware at a problem will fix it but I have not seen this brought up in here.  Will this device make up for what the phonedrone is missing and save you guys some work?

Here it is

This looks like a GSM shield, so I'm guessing it is equivalent to the DroneCell, more so than the PhoneDrone.

GSM shields implement similar AT commands and work on similar principles.

If we get one to work, then it should be easy enough to add appropriate initialization scripts to get other models to work also.

Besides the one you just mentioned there's also these:

and modules like this:

From my recent searches I have seen that it is quite difficult to find these in stock (or if the modules are in stock, the boards are not and vice-versa).

So apart from writing a driver that can be easily adapted to different phone modules, there's the question of finding a reliable supply of the modules

wow, nice find.  I agree as well as the dronecell... I can't seem to find it anywhere, don't know why.

I contacted the owner of DroneCell, he's sold me one for development and testing. I expect to receive it this week.

I will update once I get it and start testing.
