Telemetry over cellular IP

Develop standard, re-usable inexpensive solutions for IP-enabled always-on UAVs over cellular IP networks such as GPRS, 3G, 4G etc.

Primary goal: Telemetry over low cost cellular [achieved in testing]

Secondary goal: Bi-directional GCS/Telemetry over cellular IP [achieved in testing]

Tertiary goal: High speed IP for streaming IP video over cellular 3G/4G

STATUS: Bi-directional telemetry over cellular IP (UDP or TCP) is now working. It has been flown successfully while logging live telemetry to a GCS at home, several miles away [distance is really unlimited]. Currently working on improving code, more testing and broader hardware support.

Dusan,

That module would work. Are you building one?

I need volunteer beta testers for the DroneCell code. If you have a dronecell and are willing to help me test code, let me know.

No experience needed - in fact I want to see what happens with the code if used by "regular" Ardupilot users who are not IP savvy. After all, it should be as "plug and play" as the Xbee, that's a stated goal.

Anyone? See here: http://diydrones.com/group/telemetry-over-cellular-ip/forum/topics/...

Andreas, is the DronCell supporting 3G?

DroneCell arrived today. Starting development of a basic driver.

you can attach your android phone to the UAV and use apps like CloudCam as a mjpeg video link, it lets you choose the resolution and quality to get less lag. Also you can use Trackme to get a GPS position, altitude, speed and bearing and tracking path, all on google maps. But is there a way to control the servos with the phone without having a science degree?

Got the PhoneDrone talking to my Android phone, previously got it talking to the APM telemetry, so now I'm just stitching the software to get it all the way to the GCS. Progress at last...

The GPRS USB modem is a good idea as well !

The steps I described is for a UAV IP is IP whether on the ground or in the air the principles remain the same. The components I suggested are small enough to fit on UAV. Android ADK route is redundant because you can use a most phone as a wifi hot spot you do not need your phone to be connected To the APM to give it access to the telemetry. you can use Bluetooth or wifi. all that is needed is something to do the IP routing. I have also seen ADK developers take the same rout using bluetooth instead of weir for PTZ camera control. the issues is that GCS does not support IP right now. I would like to see GCS offer IP & joystick control. Phone drone will run diy droned software along with any ADK developed software but the board has no IMU sensors. How to integrate suported IMU with phone drone ?
