Hello Dean,

The village festival got in the way of my plans this week-end. It seems to be an opportunity for normal respectable people drink all day and behave like idiots. I was busy being responsible all day (not), so things with the APM have not progressed to airborne testing. I made the changes and checks you and Jason recommended but came across this, which seems to explain my issue:

"Note: As a safety measure, your throttle will only arm on the ground in Manual mode, Stabilize or for an autotakeoff in Auto mode. It will not come in in any other Auto mode until you are in motion in the air."

So, it may be that there is nothing wrong with my setup; I'll see if I can get out today, weather permitting, and check things out. I'll let you know.

Just an idea seeing as you dont have an xbee, why dont you leave the usb plugged into the apm? and wrap the cable up somewher in the fuselage, that way you just pull the wir out of the side or wherever you wish and plug it into the laptop, the apm wont know there is a cable plugged in until you plug it in the laptop..

I have bought a short micro to mini usb extension - about 4 inches. The extension would normally be ideal but I don't want to carve a hole in the side of the fuz to get at. I'm probably going to get fed-up with messing around and just do it - the model is supposed to be a test bed anyway...

I wondered about foam affecting the GPS because it takes so long to find the sats - only took a few secs with the FY21, but several minutes with APM.

I have spent some time on the Planner and have a range of routes saved, so it will be interesting to see how they work - I just need to have the parameters set so the model flies them.

I dont think the foam will be an issue? sometimes mine takes a minute and other times 5 or ten?

Too late! I've cut a small hole in the fuz and connected a small micro to mini usb connector. The connector is only two inches long and the mini end just hangs out the fuz. It's made the programming much easier and still looks quite neat.

On another subject; has anyone had any problems loading Mission Planner. I have a quad boot system on my pc with win7, Vista, XP and Linux. The only operating system MP will run on is Vista. I also have a win7 laptop and an XP netbook. MP installs but will not load on any other system. It's not a great problem, but is baffling me. You click on the icon on the desktop, see the black command screen for an instant before the programme crashes. Windows makes some inane comment like: "Mission Planner has stopped working. Please wait until Windows checks for a solution", which of course it never does. Exactly same same response from HK's Ground Station - it only works on my Vista setup. Very odd...

CR@P! I just wrote a lengthy reply and accidentally touched the back button on my mouse and lost the lot. Great! Anyway, I have win7 64bit too and there is definitely an issue. Conflict probably.
