Do you guys have the chance to tune-up the X8 for the Arduplane PIDs and parameters?
Can you share the configuration data/parameter?

Permalink Reply by Tim McPherson on September 7, 2012 at 12:35pm Hi James. I'll likely start testing my new APM2.5 this weekend.I'll be trying out the Stabilize mode first and maybe some simple missions. However, I'll report any PID tuning parameters that I need to change from the default settings.

Good news! No mystery or trouble with the default PID tuning parameters on my new X8. Manual, RTL, Stabilize and AUTO modes worked incredibly well. The wind was about 10 mph with gusts to about 15 mph. Altitudes were rock steady and the loitering patterns were very circular despite the wind. Course hunting was minimal. This is one stable bird. I can hardly wait to get back out and get better acquainted with her.

Sound like a very good job.
Can you load your final PIDs?
Thanks

My PID tuning parameters are still the defaults. I've had no reason to change any of them yet.

I meant that the PID parameters that I fly my X8 with are the parameters that are initialized when flashing my APM with the ArduPlane firmware. These were the default parameters I spoke of. I did not change them and they serve me well.

Permalink Reply by Tim McPherson on September 9, 2012 at 8:42pm Hi James,
Have a great time. One thing I'd like to warn folks trying this for the first time is to make sure that the track of the aircraft does not carry it between you and the sun. This may sound obvious but the default loiter radius was quite a bit larger than I'd anticipated and brought my X8 into the sun. Panic set in and rather than use the RTL feature that I had tested only minutes before, I threw it into manual and struggled to bring it back. I felt pretty silly afterwards, but I had instinctively reacted as if I didn't have RTL.
