I thought it was about time to start a U.K group, mainly due to the time difference between us and USA, so members can discuss their issues here and hopefully get the help they require sooner? Also it possible there is someone living not far away from yourself that you could swap ideas with and get first hand help and advice with your project.

Quite similar to how I got mine, still think I can get a tighter circle?, if the weathers o.k tommorow I will try again with the stab and rate settings, although mine are good apart from the yaw which kicks out sometimes in forward flight and when descending it`s a bit unsteady.
I have changed the rtl settings also and have seen a good improvement..
Try and get another video tommorow if the wind and rain hold off

Comment by Dave C on May 16, 2012 at 2:19pm Looking good! If you are getting twitching try taking rate_d to zero, if that solves it bring rate_d up slowly, and add a bit more I. Thats worked for me a few times!
Here's my best effort from today.

O.K heres the new loiter

Dave C,
Tried your PID settings for stab and rate, unfortunately no good for me.. It started twitching, must be a few vibes going on somewhere :)
On a good note the sun is out at least for today? and I have been playing with my loiter settings again, will post a vid when vimeo is finished messing around..

Comment by Dave C on May 15, 2012 at 11:20am Hi Martin,
It's going really well thanks, in between the rain and workload I've actually managed a flight or two recently, shame my new video camera turned up dead ;) (it's RMA'd, so watch this space).
Since i got the APM2 I thought I'd put it through its paces, so i raided the scraps bin and have built two DIY frames, see how the APM deals with my less than perfect geometry. All good so far. Can't wait till ive got time to fix up the 1.4 frame again, with the APM1 and the 850kv gear, and the 3dr with some spanking new 880 kit from your good self :)
Old skool vs nu skool - the battle of identical loiter points - yeee haaa :)

Dave C..... :)
How are you? I've not had a mail from you in a while.......... How are you doing with the new APM?
Regards
Martin

Yep that works like that..

I tried to get the stabilzation for the gimbal using the apm but everytime I plugged it in everything jammed up, so I started to use an external gyro, think I will go and try the apm board again for the stabilization using the new wiring setup, see if it works?

Dean, Great you found it, I had the same type of issue way back when I had my first plane and APM (2010, wow it feels like only yesterday!), the BEC could not keep up with all the servo's, radio and APM, after about 30 seconds of operation everything woud just stop, and then come back to life after about 60 seconds when the BEC had recovered, I'm just real pleased I checked every last step on the ground, as 30 seconds of flight on that plane was a good few hundred feet up and at least the same in distance away from the take off point.......
Regards
Martin.

It happened to me again today and I managed to chase after it and grab it before it crashed. But the good news is I now know what is causing the problem... I am using a camera gimbal plugged into channel 8 of my receiver, the receiver gets its power from the apm so when I move the camera gimbal it sucks too much power from the apm and shuts it down or freezes it. So now still using channel 8 but only plugged in the signal wire and used a splitter on a 3amp ubec, one feed for the apm and the other for my gimbal, I haven`t flown it again yet but can reproduce the problem indoors, and wiring the new way doesn`t seem to affect the board.. Fingers crossed.
