"Based on your questions I assume you are at the beginning and haven't yet developed swarm motion control. Am I right? In that case i would suggest to do a simulation as a start. I would use ROS and Gazebo for that. Further I would start start…"

Armin Strobel replied to Ari Schwartz's discussion How is ATT data calculated in Mission Planner logs?
"EKF is short for Extended Kalman Filter, which is the nonlinear version of a linear Kalman Filter. So you have already what you wanted? In case that didn't answer your question, then you might have to explain a bit more what you do. I would…"

Armin Strobel replied to Ari Schwartz's discussion How is ATT data calculated in Mission Planner logs?
"You are welcome. As usually it depends:-) I am not as much in that topic any more as 10 years ago so I will not really comment on that, but I think it would be great to state what you using (Pixhawk/PX4)? The PX4 software stack uses now an EKF as…"

Armin Strobel replied to Ari Schwartz's discussion How is ATT data calculated in Mission Planner logs?
"As far as I know the recorded rate is not necessarily the rate at which the modules of the firmware communicate with each other. I would look how the logger is configured and possibly (I am not sure if it is the same as with the telemetry on the…"

Armin Strobel replied to Javier Fernandez's discussion Talking spherical drones
"Let's think out of the box, since you have a "limitless" budget. If you want to keep the openings as small as possible then you need to increase the speed of the air. In that case your best bet is a little jet engine or rocket engine…"

Armin Strobel replied to Cromwell A's discussion Yawing Issue with EDF (Electric Ducted Fan) Octacopter/Multirotor/Drone/UAV Flight
"Yes, it could but in your case it doesn't. If it would the position control would correct in the wrong direction and would start to go in big circle (would cause most likely a crash)."

Armin Strobel replied to Cromwell A's discussion Yawing Issue with EDF (Electric Ducted Fan) Octacopter/Multirotor/Drone/UAV Flight
"That explains all. I assume the EDF you have are all turning in the same direction. I don't know your exact setup, thats why i am suggesting a more testing approach. I would put the trust to something like 20% and then turn the drone around the…"

Armin Strobel replied to Cromwell A's discussion Yawing Issue with EDF (Electric Ducted Fan) Octacopter/Multirotor/Drone/UAV Flight
"That is what I was expecting. I would say your compass / IMU is working fine. You have a problem of controllability. I would try to tilt your EDFs a bit more (which I assume you have already done a bit). Let me know If you don't understand what…"

A 3D printed ducted fan UAV prototype

Posted on May 25, 2015 at 1:00pm 15 Comments

Though Ducted Fans UAVs as of now are not very common, my personal opinion is that this will change in the future, since they have certain advantages over other concepts. Just one single engine is necessary which makes the use of internal combustion engine more viable than for multi-rotors. Also a transition into a very efficient horizontal flight is possible (with modifications).…

UAV swarm

I thought I would post some information about some research I have done.

This video shows a simulation of UAVs swarming with an advanced control algorithms.

Seven UAVs are shown, which find a source of fumes or aerosols by measuring the…
