"I have tried connecting the OSD with 1 power source and 2 power sources. I always have a jumpy voltage reading no matter what I try. I think this is due to a flaw in the way APM is made. Perhaps the Pixhawk will be better in this regard."

connection of gnd wire on attopilot sensor really necessary?

Hi!I hav an APM 2.5 with a 90A attopilot sensor. I am wondering if it is really necessary to connect gnd wire coming from attopilot sensor. The thing is I have the power jumper disconnected so I have two power sources on my APM. To avoid ground loops I don't connect gnd coming out from the attopilot sensor because I understand it is the same gnd as the one on the battery wire whic in turns ends up connected to apm through the bec on the ESC. However, voltage indicator on OSD and on the ground…See More

"I will test it today but I am almost 100% sure the grounds are connected, even with the jumper removed. I am flying a wing like the one on my avatar so, my question is then: if I want to run all the FPV gear, the APM, MINIMOSD, etc...and The motor…"

Steven G replied to Asaak's discussion power connection. Am I right?
"If the ground is still connected, then, yes, there would be a ground loop. They probably made a design trade so only one jumper would be needed. Otherwise, J1 would had to have been a double jumper on two pins, one Pos. and the other Gnd."

Bill Bonney replied to Asaak's discussion power connection. Am I right?
"The GND is common, so only the supply line is separated. So there can still be a ground loop. I think in hindsight that he GND on the outputs should have also be disconnected."

Steven G replied to Asaak's discussion power connection. Am I right?
"Without the jumper in, the two sides of the APM are separated, are they not? If there are indeed seperated,  there is no loop. Each load has its own Power and Gnd. going back to the connector."

Bill Bonney replied to Asaak's discussion power connection. Am I right?
"Simple explanation of a ground loop is that two wires in parallel are like two resistors in parallel. They will divide the current between them. If you have  high current wire in parallel with a GND wire with some sensitive to current…"
