Chris Borchert replied to Daniel Degallier's discussion Pixhawk Idle speed too fast? Increases throttle on its own
"Solved the problem, and there are two separate issues at play here: 1) The throttle seems to increase after idling because you are in stabilize mode and the Pixhawk sees that it is not perfectly level. It may be hard to see this if your idle speed…"

Chris Borchert replied to Daniel Degallier's discussion Pixhawk Idle speed too fast? Increases throttle on its own
"Hi Daniel Degallier, I seem to have the same thing happening with a quadcopter here. Idle speed seems unreasonably high, and the motor speed keeps increasing without change in throttle pwm after idle start. Have you found the source of this…"

Chris Borchert commented on Jani Hirvinen's blog post Adding more features to IOBoard
"@Jure Jerman I'm just getting back to my telemetry setup after having it on the back seat for the last couple months. I have the IO board & FrSky Vario but I'm still not sure how to connect everything to the X8R and APM. Any…"

Chris Borchert commented on Jani Hirvinen's blog post Adding more features to IOBoard
"Nils Högberg thanks for answering my question!  One last thing, once I have the smartport vario, where do the rx and tx connections from the ioboard go (perhaps they connect to the data in port)? Can I simultaneously connect two frsky…"

Chris Borchert commented on Jani Hirvinen's blog post Adding more features to IOBoard
"Nils Högberg did you get APM telemetry working with the X8R receiver? I've been scouring the internet for information on how to do this and now it is time to ask for help! I have the jDrones ioboard, but I'm not sure how to…"

Chris Borchert replied to Josh Potter's discussion 500 heli on APM 3.0.0 code flying great!
"Hey Sean, That is one sweet looking machine! I've been away with work for a while but I'm back now and I've finally installed a GPS unit (the new LEA-6H one) on my 600 AP rig and updated to firmware v3.0.1. Loiter is working amazingly…"

Chris Borchert replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"Hmmm I'm one of those stubborn arseholes still using RSC_Mode... This is predominantly due to lack of time, but I also am concerned (perhaps entirely without merit) that transfering throttle authority over to the APM will affect the reliability…"

Chris Borchert replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"Ray, I've been running my 600 ESP at around 1550rpm, but that is with 620mm spinblades and their 95mm tail blades.  Flys like a dream currently, and I don't seem to be getting much more balooning of the heli in windy/gusting…"

Chris Borchert replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"Tony, I may have changed some of the FF terms since my last post.  Very satisfied with the APM flight characteristics right now and I haven't had time to update to 2.9.1 yet so I'm still using version 2.9 without running throttle…"

Chris Borchert replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"I have a bunch of strip lights on there already, but I might add some to the skids too.  It's more so that I can precisely see the roll of the heli when it's close to level, far away and 90˚ to me in bright daylight (i.e. I am able to…"

Chris Borchert replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"Thanks for the info!  Because my motor shaft is 6mm, the smallest pinion that align makes is still 12T, which gets me a headspeed around 1800rpm (down from ~2100 with my existing 14T pinion and 1220kv motor). Perhaps I could get a new motor…"

"Just wanted to give a quick update on my 600 FB aerial rig.  I played around with RATE_PIT_FF and RATE_RLL_FF yesterday and it resulted in the smoothest and most stable flight I've ever had with the APM 2.5 installed!  Lots of power…"

"Awesome, thanks!  I'll do some testing tomorrow and report my findings.  Would you recommend I move STB_PIT_P and STB_RLL_P back to 3.8 from their present 4.8, or maybe just to around 4.5?"

Chris Borchert replied to Rob_Lefebvre's discussion Arducopter 2.9 for TradHeli Discussion
"Robert: As always, your insight is invaluable!  I've attached my param file. Did a brief flight while the rain was in a lull just to see how the increased STB_RLL_P and STB_PIT_P changed things.  Wobbles were significantly reduced…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I am an Engineering student at UBC in Vancouver. I was originally an Animal Biologist, but following my recent immersion into aerial photography and videography, I am now in pursuit of an Integrated Engineering degree (a mix of mechanical and electrical in my case, specializing in aerodesign and autonomous systems). It's a lot of school, but I have fun at the same time, perhaps too much fun... My AP interests derive from a background in photography: www.chrisborchert.com
Please tell us a bit about your UAV interest
I have a Trex 600E aerial photography platform and I run a small AP business in Vancouver with a fellow student. We are just getting started now, but with much support from UBC and a handful of local businesses we are ready to start taking bigger steps. I am also a dedicated member of UBC's AeroDesign engineering student team. This year, I will be taking the lead on automated flight control for a UAV that we are building from the ground up to compete in the Unmanned Systems Canada competition next spring.
