2.0.47 Default PID's Question

Started this discussion. Last reply by Don Cramer Oct 8, 2011. 2 Replies

It seems that with each revision the default PID's seem to change. My question is are those PID changes because we found a better match or the testing airframe (assuming default arducopter airframe)…Continue

Tricopter controller

Started Sep 25, 2011 0 Replies

Recently i switched from flying quads to tricopters mainly because i have taken a strong interest into FPV. Here is my last fpv video...  I have two ArduCopter 2.0.xx tricopters at the moment. Both…Continue

APM will not init in fly mode

Started this discussion. Last reply by Don Cramer Aug 24, 2011. 7 Replies

I took the tri out a bit ago for a test hover on a new battery to try and get a baseline for battery consumption. All went well, no crash or hard landings... I just tried to take a second flight and…Continue

Started Jul 27, 2011 0 Replies

I asked this previously and never really worked it out and have been dealing with it just fine until i started trying out FPV with my ArduCopter... What i see happening is while i apply a yaw left or…Continue

Stephen R Mann replied to Don Cramer's discussion For sale: ARDrone, extra battery...
"Don, did you sell the Parrot? I have one that has been modified for R/C control that I used as a trainer.  Now that I am comfortable flying my hexacopter, I don't need the training wheels any more."

Don Cramer commented on AndrewF's blog post Arducopter Tethered Tests
"Tethering IMO is a useless practice for setting up any rotor craft. They just do not like it and its really hard to determine even if there is really a problem or the way it behaves is from being tethered.   It is more useful to hold on to the…"

Don Cramer replied to Jeff Cartwright's discussion powering esc's with out the distrabution board
"The PDB seems more of a convenience than a requirement. It itself only uses the BEC of one speed controller. If you are really concerned just yank the red wire out of the servo plug and put some heat shrink on it for 3 of the 4 escs. It works…"

Don Cramer commented on Jose Angel's blog post Arducopter PID tunning howto video
"PID Tuning has always been tougher for me.  The method shown in these videos looked promising (You can read it a 100 times but sometimes it helps to see). Tuning acro mode then on to stabilize.   For myself acro mode was best at around…"

Don Cramer replied to Ray Rodrick's discussion All propellers rotating same way... Can I angle all motors or just one???
"The counter rotating props are required on a quad not only to counter the engine torque but also allow you to yaw/turn the copter as well. You could manually rotate one or all of them enough to counter torque but you will not be able to…"

Don Cramer replied to Matthew Smith's discussion <12volt Camera in US?
"Sure.. When you power your video tx/cam on the same battery used to power the esc's/motors you will likely get video noise from the ESC's that varies with the speed of the motors.   Here are a few links of samples of what people are…"

Don Cramer replied to Matthew Smith's discussion <12volt Camera in US?
"The 12v video tx and cameras from readymaderc work fine running off a 3s lipo flight pack with zero regulation. That is how my FPV tri's are setup with no problems. The only thing you will need to do is put an LC filter on the power line to the…"

Don Cramer replied to Al Ros's discussion Quad frame size and inherent stability

ArduCopter 2 Tri and FPV.... Enjoying the hobby again!

Posted on September 22, 2011 at 11:25pm 4 Comments

I started in RC ages ago but i did not really get serious with the  hobby till about 15 years ago. I started out with traditional heli's and then moved to fixed wing aircraft as well. I became very proficient in both, flew IMAC and was a known regular at our field. I truly enjoyed the hobby and spent a great deal of time and money to support it as…
