Gord replied to Veikko Vierola's discussion Multicopter motor arm/strut lenght and flexibility affect to flight characteristics
"flex would have a bearing on the stability of the craft. I would not use fishing rods as they are heavier then the carbon rods you can buy from online, and also more flexible. The more length you put on the arm, the more stresses on the arm come…"

Gord replied to Ted Newgent's discussion seeking advice, I'd like to build a RC fixed wing aircraft from scratch then convert to a drone
"If you want stability you want a decent wing area, and read up on stable platforms. I am looking at using the gull wing for its inherent stability. The British designed the Lysander and the Germans the Storch which have been emulated since ww2…"

"I concur the ipad and droid apps are OK for toys, but to get the right stuff going, get the Spektrum, it's a solid unit and IMO the best bang for the buck. They have amazing customer service and go above and beyond."

Gord replied to Lee Wilkes's discussion Night vision pictures with GPS coordinates
"flying over an area to get an idea where they roam is not illegal or unsporting. People who have never hunted, don't get the idea that the hunter still has to get near the deer on the ground. Most deer hunters use a stand, deer smell the human…"

Gord commented on Jiri Pistek's blog post 40mm retractable camera turret
"Jiri you can build slip rings. When I was in college a guy built one using hdpe and copper washers machined to size. He used spring loaded R/C brushes for the contacts. He did stagger the brushes so they wouldn't arc. It was only for power…"

Gord replied to James Pollock's discussion Micro UAS and Commercial Applications (author: Private Investigator)
"The only issue I can see the LAPD enforcing, is violation of privacy. If someone complains that the papparazzi is flying a UAV over their property and taking pics of them sunbathing or copulating, then that would be an issue. The use of UAV's…"

Gord replied to Jason's discussion Go pro camera near IR
"check out the lucid science website. They have projects on how to convert cameras to IR. They also have plans to make IR illuminators. Its a cool site with hacks and other projects."

Gord replied to James Pollock's discussion Micro UAS and Commercial Applications (author: Private Investigator)
"Is his aerial platform a drone, a UAV or an R/C? The media can be pretty dumb when it comes to research and presenting stories to the public.  He may have a live feed R/C platform. The FAA may pick and choose who they fine. They aren't…"

Gord replied to James Pollock's discussion Micro UAS and Commercial Applications (author: Private Investigator)
"I think you have a valid point about the PI's being a commercial for hire agency. Jim should approach the FAA about commercial use and licensing. It may be a lot of hoops to jump through but could be well worth it for him. If he advertises he…"

Gord replied to James Pollock's discussion Micro UAS and Commercial Applications (author: Private Investigator)
"The most important thing you are looking for is something that can carry a decent payload as lenses aren't light. You also need diversity to use things like night vision. A working partner would be needed to be the observer so you could also…"
