Yes, I would get them up and away from the motor/esc. Also, the shelf could protect the camera.

It's probably more subseptable (sp) to magnetic influences from the 'bot then the GPS. However, it is not on its own cable.

Yes, one could do that. Problem is, what GPS are they using, and did they get it in accurately?
