DX8 Connection to Receiver without Comms

Hi, I have heard by word of mouth that it is possible to directly connect a Transmitter such as the Spektrum DX8 to a receiver such as the AR8000 directly. I am interested in this operation in order to remove the communication component for testing of the system. I am told it is possible through the trainer port but I am not sure how it would be connected to the RC Receiver. If anyone may know more about this subject please let me know.
