30 minute multicopter flight times, with a camera, in practice ?

I am wondering if anyone is flying a platform that achieves 30 minutes flight time in practice, while carrying a small camera. The Phantom 2 Vision is close, at 20 to 25 minutes from a 5200mAh…Continue

"HI, could I please ask your opinion on something regarding the RVJET? Did you connect your servos directly on the APM or did you use an external BEC to power them? Thanks Spyros"

Odd flight: following some waypoints, then not.

During a mission yesterday, my copter hit the first four waypoints, and then kept moving in the same direction, instead of turning towards the next waypoint. I watched it for a while and then brought it back with RTL, which worked fine.Reviewing the data this morning, I found that my mission did not have a waypoint 5. Instead, it connected wp4 to wp6, but the copter apparently did not know to skip the missing wp, and kept heading in it's previous direction. It's entirely possible that I…See More

"Agreed - something in the 16/17 prop range with an AUW of <3.5kg including 8A or more of capacity should get around 30 minutes. This will be tricky, as 8A is around a kilo, and the high pole count, 6S motors needed to crank 15/17 props…"

"I have room, but going to something like a 12,000 only gives me 1 more minute flight time! I'm pretty much at the optimum right now. However I can gain more by putting it on a diet - throwing the al RCtimer gimbal and getting a CF one at half…"

Building a 3DR-B... found a frame orientation issue

Posted on May 12, 2012 at 7:51pm 4 Comments

After putting the copter together over a few exciting evenings, initial test flights showed some very strange control responses with pitch and roll being swapped. I could "correct" this by swapping my Aileron and Elevator receiver channels, but that made the autopilot's stabilization input completely unpredictable. I checked my wiring and documentation, and found the following:

The PDB that comes with the 3DR-B is oriented to use rotor 2 and 3 as the quad's front in x-mode.…
