Building software to fit on APM1

HiI'm trying to build some of the ArduPilot software for the APM1. I keep getting error like:%% APMrover2.elf/usr/lib/gcc/avr/4.5.3/../../../avr/bin/ld: /tmp/APMrover2.build/APMrover2.elf section `.text' will not fit in region `text'/usr/lib/gcc/avr/4.5.3/../../../avr/bin/ld: region `text' overflowed by 3664 bytescollect2: ld returned 1 exit statusmake: *** [/tmp/APMrover2.build/APMrover2.elf] Error 1$Same when trying to build ArduPlane. Following the diections from github.com/diydrones/ardupilot->Building using make

On Ubuntu 12.04.2, starting with a working Arduino, I've setup for ArduPilot Mega starting with:"~$ git clone git://github.com/diydrones/ardupilot.git"I followed this with:"~$ ardupilot/Tools/scripts/install-prereqs-ubuntu.sh".I then loaded the a sketch from my ~/ardupilot/ArduPlane.It sounds like it is a two step process to develop sketches for the AuduPilot Mega as described in the directions in "github.com/diydrones/ardupilot->Building using make".1) develop them in the Arduino UI2) build…See More

"Thanks Søren, When you suggest the arduino from github.com/diydrones do you mean github.com/diydrones/Arduino (I take it this is a modified version of the arduino software specific to ardupilot)? If so, with this modified version of…"

Søren Kuula replied to Mike Sousa's discussion Programming ArduPilotMega without MissionPlanner?
"Then you need the arduino version for ardupilot available at github.com/diydrones and the ardupilot sources, same place. With that you can build and program from arduino (theoretically should work) or using make/cmake from a shell (definitely…"

Profile Information

About Me:
Engineer, Outdoor enthusiast, rc helicopter fan

If there is anybody in the Southern New Hampshire or Northeastern Massachusetts area who would like to get together either once in awhile or on a regular basis to discuss UAVs, drop me a line. Right now I'm focused on MUAVs (Micro UAVs), preferably using rc helicopters. I would like to discuss choice/selection of servos/actuators/effectors, sensor integration, autopilots, swarming/autonomous algorithms, communication networks, etc. I am also interested in discussing using Unmanned Ground/UnderWater Vehicles in conjuction with UAVs.
