"It occurs to me that we have been side-stepping the primary issue here, which is to answer the question in each case of propeller, "how much power am I putting IN, and how much thrust am I getting OUT."  It would have been easy for…"

"Brad, Again, thanks for such an explanatory post. I have already started to read your "blog posts" and am learning quite a bit. I understand the principles of helicopter flight, and have a good understanding of aerodynamics to the degree…"

""Slow Fly" props are artifacts of yesteryear, when electric flight meant small, "park flyer" type airplanes of styrofoam construction and low-powered motors (even NiMH batteries).  However, the blade section geometry and…"

"Eddie, My apologies for not responding sooner. I somehow missed seeing your post. At any rate...I understand the draw to time aspect of the batteries. I just didn't anticipate the time to be so short. I was thinking 30 minutes flight time not 3…"

"Thanks, Mo.  Nobody really writes a good, basic and useful model aerodynamics book that I'm aware of.  I'm admittedly not formally trained (have no academic credentials) on the subject, but it became a passion for me and…"

"Brad, This type of equation is something that I was curious about. I am wanting to get a better understanding of the math behind the aerodynamics of model aircraft. I was looking at APC when I was buying parts to build the quad, but I had read that…"

"Thomas, Thanks for the reply. I am still new to the model aircraft world, only about 4 months. I went with 3s batteries because that was what the specs on HK said. As for 4000mAh running the IMU, I knew that was grossly over-kill, but it was what I…"

"Mo, thank you for providing me an opportunity to pontificate about one of my favorite aerodynamic issues: the Reynold's Number paradox.  Conventional wisdom says that because lift increases with the square of the velocity and drag…"

"Actually, the higher voltage will result in a lower current drain.  The power (watts) remains the same. This is why we have high voltage power lines.  Very high voltage (40,000volts) and low current, but high wattage. That's why and…"

Eddie Hunnell replied to Mo1010427's discussion Propeller Selection
"Battery life is all about current drain. A 4000 mAh battery supplying 4 Amps will last 1 hour. A battery supplying 40 Amps will last 1/10 as long or about 6 minutes. The motor selection, prop selection, weight of the copter (hence the average…"

Currently I am using Master Airscrew props.Master Airscrew 10x6My quad is 24" x 24" aluminum tube with Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kV 23A outboards. 2 motors are powered by a Zippy 5800mAh 30C battery, the other 2 motors by an identical battery. A third Zippy 4000mAh 20C battery powers the IMU.I've noticed that when I was…See More

"Andrew, For CAM software I use PyCAM. While I don't have much experience with the program yet, I have used it a few times to get an idea of how it works. The nice thing is it will pull in 3D models in STL format. This works well for me. I then…"
