Ouroboros commented on Jose Luis Cortes's blog post Searching for heavy duty applications for HYBRiX20
"Perhaps try to get some introductions through Randy, as he is located in Japan, which has extensive agricultural spraying with RC helicopters. Though that is a challenging environment, mountain valleys obscuring GPS (so RTK support), extensive…"

Ouroboros commented on Gary Mortimer's blog post US Army calls for units to discontinue use of DJI equipment
"Considering the active DJI hacking scene this was inevitable. Even if DJI wasn't doing something shady, the number of holes/bugs makes this a problem. The flipside being opensource is in that weird middle zone where transparency is a blessing…"

Ouroboros commented on Patrick Hanley's blog post Hanley Innovations Upgrades Stallion 3D to Version 5.0
"Sure looks like the X-57 Maxwell X-plane, which is not a trivial simulation..."

Ouroboros commented on Colin Snow's blog post Can AeroVironment Compete in the Commercial Drone Market?
"Smells like ardupilot based, with mavlink based android app based on some of the descriptions. Can anyone confirm?"

Ouroboros commented on Jose Luis Cortes's blog post 2 hours and 5 minutes test flight with maximum takeoff weight
"Most conventional centrifugal/axial microturbines are fuel guzzlers to be sure, and the typical efficiency boosting solution of recuperators does no favors due to weight. Rotary ramjet style supersonic turbines in theory can reach diesel levels of…"

Ouroboros commented on Joe Renteria's blog post Helicopter Concept
"Would concentrating the hardware to essentially a battery rotor hub and joining 2 together (common payload shaft, functionally independent, but one slaved to the other wirelessly) to be a coax be another path?"

Ouroboros commented on Dmitriy Ershov's blog post Fleetlights - open source guardian drones service
"It's the Uber for Streetlights!!!111lol Seriously though, this plus battery autoswapping droneports (perhaps mobile droneport based on a truck/van system) would not be totally insane..."

Ouroboros commented on Jose Luis Cortes's blog post 2 hours and 5 minutes test flight with maximum takeoff weight
"At this scale though, are generators confined to two-stoke oil premix fueled piston engines? Will there ever be a viable microturbine turbogenerator with foil bearings to avoid the lube issue and use straight gasoline or diesel? Will Liquid…"

Ouroboros commented on Collette Gregory's blog post World's Smallest Cyclocopter
"Their previous X quad is interesting, but with the available vectored thrust, an H style quad that can also fly forward more efficiently using full thrust of 4 rotors (rather than losing some thrust due to cant) would be great for a commercial UAV.…"

Ouroboros commented on Collette Gregory's blog post Osram's Laser Chip for Lidar
"Brain fart - is anyone attempting to combine 3D point cloud phased array radar chips with the solid state LIDAR chips as a single chip? Are the semiconductor processes even compatible?"

Ouroboros commented on Collette Gregory's blog post Osram's Laser Chip for Lidar
"What about Quanergy's S3qi solid state LIDAR? They appear to suggest that they are single chip 3D with 120 degree field of view. Not clear if they use MEMS, or actually are similar to to the MIT/DARPA work."

Ouroboros commented on Kristaps Brass's blog post Creating a Mesh Network With Drones
"Weight and deployability probably. A tethered multi with power up the tether has less weight issues than a balloon, and much easier to deploy on short notice from small hardcases. Power supply does become an issue though."

Ouroboros commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Delft VTOL project uses helicopter-style main rotor for effeciency
"Appears to have wingtip props to function as anti-torque, so technically a tricopter? Tip props don't appear to feather or tilt..."

Ouroboros commented on John Arne Birkeland's blog post ArduPilot and DroneCode part ways
"With Softbank now owning ARM, I wonder if Randy could make an appeal to Mr. Son directly for a reference ARM design for FC+basic features SoC, as a drone network fits into a cellphone carrier's IoT plans? Quite a few cellphone chips are…"

Ouroboros commented on John Arne Birkeland's blog post ArduPilot and DroneCode part ways
"So maybe to be clear, should ArduPilot clearly host the reference board open hardware designs they work with? So perhaps fork/host Pixhawk2, rebrand it, and host it as the  preferred reference board for implementers? Since ArduPilot cut their…"
