Patrick L commented on Jonathan Price's blog post HobbyKing Selling ArduPilot Parts
"At least the user comments at HK told me that there is a heat problem with MinimOSD V0.1 powered by 12V. Yes, I found mine (acquired from 3DR) to be suspiciously warm, but otherwise I wouldn't have addressed the issue, with probably…"

Patrick L commented on Gary McCray's blog post QuadroQuad - Quadcopter plus four horizontal motors / props = Stable Flight - I Hope!
"Gary, Curiously, the wiki about contra-rotating propellors mentions improved efficiency and increased noise. In practice the sound is different but the noise level is certainly not excessive, and while I'm pretty sure that the bottom props…"

Patrick L commented on Gary McCray's blog post QuadroQuad - Quadcopter plus four horizontal motors / props = Stable Flight - I Hope!
"I had the same idea some time ago, and ultimately decided on an X8 coaxial configuration where the motors are all tilted 15 degs outwards. Another member here (Aerhead) has tried something similar before using a dual quad config. It already flies…"

Patrick L replied to Stephen Roach's discussion Slow beep from ESCs, can't arm 2 of 6 motors
"Hmm. I had another problem today (motors responding incorrectly to yaw) and so I went back from 2.7.4-Beta to 2.7.3. When trying to apply my arming fix to the source code, I found that the bug wasn't there, and so must have been introduced…"

Patrick L commented on Chris Anderson's blog post 3D-printed drone from UVA
"They also didn't use the capabilities of 3D printers to create complex structures that cannot be practically otherwise. I mean, it should be possible to design and print an optimal trellis instead of the traditional solid rib and spar structure."

Patrick L replied to Stephen Roach's discussion Slow beep from ESCs, can't arm 2 of 6 motors
"I feel for you, and alas, your problem might be the same as mine, or then it might not. The saying 'the journey is the destination' certainly applies here. And like I said: the bad news is that you will have to build the code yourself.…"

Patrick L replied to Stephen Roach's discussion Slow beep from ESCs, can't arm 2 of 6 motors
"The Good News: I've solved the issue. Tracing with a logic analyser revealed the exact problem. Power is applied at A. When APM initilizes the rc channels, it activates the outputs and drives them high at B. PWM starts at C. It's the…"

Patrick L replied to Stephen Roach's discussion Slow beep from ESCs, can't arm 2 of 6 motors
"Basically, I connected the scope to an output, set 500us/div, configured a falling edge repeating trigger and connected the battery (well, actually a bench lab ps). Once the APM2 starts generating output frames, the scope is triggered and starts…"

Patrick L replied to Stephen Roach's discussion Slow beep from ESCs, can't arm 2 of 6 motors
"I'm having the same problem. Originally standard octo firmware was loaded by latest version of the planner, and all 8 TGY Plush 25A escs armed. Rebuilt arducopter in Arduino with OCTA_QUAD_FRAME and now only 3 escs arm. With a scope I see at…"

Patrick L commented on Duran - SteadiDrone's blog post FPV Cloudsurfing with APM2.5 and SteadiDrone X8 WING
"[spoilsport] VFR. Victor Foxtrot Romeo. Visual Flight Rules. :) Keep in mind that at 3600ft you're flying well inside class G airspace... [/spoilsport]"

Patrick L commented on Duran - SteadiDrone's blog post FPV Cloudsurfing with APM2.5 and SteadiDrone X8 WING
"Tears in my eyes, not from staring into the setting sun but from the sheer beauty. Alas, just to spoil the fun: keep in mind VFR rules: 1500 meter horz, 1000ft vert from clouds ;-)"

Patrick L commented on Chris Anderson's blog post Walkera Ladybird nanocopter clone for $49 with RC!
"Now, now. Who'd've thunk the former King of (bad) Clones, Walkera, being cloned ? And who will be cloning the cloned clones next ? :-)"

"Hi Larry, Have you considered writing a separate DIYD post about your flat flyer ? The community might be interested. Patrick"

Patrick L commented on Bill Nesbitt's blog post AutoQuad FC fw v6.6
"The current reliance on PID controllers without considering kinematics such as linear+angular momentum and acceleration,  gyroscopic effects, motor thrust in a theoretical manner has it's limits. Multipilot32F4 / AutoQuad FC and ESC32 may…"

Patrick L commented on R_Lefebvre's blog post APM2 and Rx All-in-One!
"FrSky also makes the Futaba FASST compatible TFR4B. This 4 channel full range rx is quite cheap, small and light and can output CPPM and RSI using the jumper method. It works like a charm with APM2 and my T8FG. @Veikko: I don't know about the…"

Patrick L commented on trappy's blog post Lake Powell (TBS @ USA Road Trip)
" Thanks very much for driving my envy levels beyond what's medically safe !  But don't tell me you couldn't reach the Rainbow Bridge ? It's only 50km from Wahweap marina as the crow flies. :-P "
