"Hi, this could help. I have connected arducopter by WiFi link with embeddable low-cost boards. Check here: http://lukse.lt/uzrasai/2012-05-carambola-powered-quadcoper/"

"Hi Sebastian, Forgot to mention the camera plan. I was planning to use a small netcam, something like http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-SecurView-Internet-Surveillance-TV-IP110/dp/B00125Q6UA/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1297818597&sr=8-10 or maybe…"

"I have been working on something similar except just video streaming and camera pan and tilt. xbee's do not have enough bandwith for video at any good frame rate. my idea is using a separate Arduino with a wifi sheild that hosts…"

"how are you going to implement video to wifi? wifi is very more complex than xbees or bluetooth are, if I where you, i would stay with to phone control and let the video running on a different system (much less weight and power consumption, much…"

"Hi Philipp,   I am new to the ArduCopter and I share this goal of smartphone control (although I want to use an Android phone.) I just bought an ethernet shield and a tiny wireless router: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0022TWQ22/ and…"

"only the idea the connection from phone to copter will be done via a "groundstation" (just an bluetooth to xbee connection) and that was all i've done so far"

"No I'm gonna be using a G2. Coding shouldn't be a big problem, I'm pretty good with both Python and C/C++. How much work have you done on this yet?"

"i'm planning to controll the arducopter like this, too but you need to do all the coding alone, there is nothing that is finished for this type of application you could give the desired angles to the arducopter and make it fly like that, but it…"

"i'm not sure what controller you will be using, but there are several video tx/rx 1.2ghz, 2.4ghz, 5.8ghz, uhf and many others, uhf being the longest range. I would suggest for long range using UHF for controller, so if your video cuts out you…"

How realistic is this idea for an Arducopter?

I don't really have much experience with RC flights at all, but I want to build an Arducopter and get into it. Here's the idea I had: I want to build an Arducopter that is controllable using the accelerometers of a smartphone, meaning that the copter "syncs" to the plane that the phone is currently facing. If the phone screen faces straight up, the Arducopter hovers, if you tilt it forwards, it flies forwards, etc. Ideally, the Arducopter is controlled directly from the smartphone, but perhaps…See More
