James Goppert said… - You will need to adjust the PID gains if you feel that the autopilot is too sluggish or if it is unstable. I am currently developing some trimming software for jsbsim that will allow you to obtain a linear model for different flight conditions and for various airframes. You can use root locus design or bode plot design to then design the control system based on the linear system. If you haven't done this before checkout the book by Ogata, "Modern Control Engineering". I will release the trimming software soon, after I clean it up a bit.
