"The 480 setup will be nice for this plane. A turnigy 35-36 1100kv would be even nicer."

" You should also be thinking about what prop to use as this is just as important as the battery. More efficient prop = longer flight times."

"What kind of setup? APM, ArduCopter, something else? The one thing I'm sure of is you can't use a LiPo battery charger as a battery!"

Possible to Test Setup Without Battery?

Hi guys -  I was wondering if it's possible to test a setup (already installed on the plane) without having to use a battery. Have you guys tried this before, and if so, how? I was thinking maybe connecting it to the LiPo battery charger the same way you would connect the battery but I'm not sure what kind of settings I would have to choose. Thanks for your help in advance!See More

"Yes, the wing area that the screws go through is a joke. It MUST be beefed up or your gonna lose the wing in flight.  You can drill some holes through the fuse and use dowels, and large rubber bands to secure it better."

A few weeks ago I was looking for a topic with pictures of the Project RQ-11 Raven in its entirety along with some close up shots of the fuselage but couldn't find one. To help you guys out, especially anyone here thinking of buying this model, I've decided to post some pictures of my almost finished Raven.

Lipo Batteries Exploding - has anyone ever experienced this? (+ what do you recommend)

Posted on December 28, 2010 at 9:00pm 18 Comments

Hey guys -

As I'm waiting for my first real model airplane to arrive, the ProJet RQ-11 Raven from NitroPlanes, I can't help but ask, has anyone ever experienced a Lipo battery explode?

Here's a video of one doing just that:

From what I read so far, it's pretty easy to overcharge/overdischarge Lipo batteries and they are… Continue

UAV flying in/around New York City?

Posted on March 15, 2010 at 7:51pm 10 Comments

Hey guys, this is my first post here on DIYDrones (I've been reading this site for a few months now, just not posting anything until now).

I'm in New York City (Brooklyn to be exact) and I'm really interested in building and flying a UAV. However, I'm wondering whether it's a good idea, or rather if it's even possible to fly an RC plane here. Obviously I'm not planning on flying around skyscrapers or anything, I just want to fly something and take a few camera shots or videos.… Continue
