Hi Guys,I've got several of these . I need to pare things down a bit because I'm not using all of them. While APM2.0 is convenient and compact for many applications it is not optimal for installs…Continue

SBUS on APM

Has anyone taken a look at implementing SBUS as well as Spektrum such that it could be part of the standard release? I have take a cursory look and would like to implement but if someone has already…Continue

Getting the tail to work

Started this discussion. Last reply by Randy Jan 13, 2012. 13 Replies

Searched and searched and haven't found much info on getting the tail to work on a TH. Just completed an install yesterday on a T500 and while the MR appears to work reasonably well the TR just wags…Continue

Ron Curry replied to Vernon Barry's discussion Flashing 3DR ESCs or RC timer ESCs with MUCH better firmware
"There is a lot of enthusiasm for the Simonk firmware. Some of it warranted some not so much. Fact is you do need to calibrate them because of variances in the clock circuits from ESC to ESC even of the exact same type and brand. Latest versions of…"

"I have the board set - FC plus GPS/Nav. It is truly amazing. The position/altitudhold/loiter is spot on and RTH, etc all work as advertised. It's a bit pricey compared to open source stuff but it truly works right out of the box. I've…"

APM1.0 with GPS professionally assembled and tested

Hi Guys,I've got several of these . I need to pare things down a bit because I'm not using all of them. While APM2.0 is convenient and compact for many applications it is not optimal for installs where you need a remote magnetometer  and GPS. Of course these have the ATMega2560 processor at 16mhz, 3 axis gyros, 3 axis accelerometers, barometric altimeter, etc. etc. just like the APM2.0 Plus the APM1.0 it has quite a few other features not found on the APM2.0. Reality is, if you have the space,…See More

"I would expect to see this in the sun $200 range - complete- just to have a market. The board need to be $20 max. WRT redundant IMUs. There is little/no value in having "redundant" IMUs for a product in this categog. These parts are…"

"Ryan, This seems to have been sitting here for about a week so I'll help out and just go down the page in order. - Optima 9 RX cables: The little notch is intended for a "key" on the mating connector. Only Futaba type connectors have…"

Ron Curry replied to Rick Eis's discussion Low Dropout Regulator 5V 1A
"As I noted to Robert, I don't think a 7805 by itself is suddenly a bad thing but, by itself, it doesn't do any filtering or clean up the power. In fact it injects some noise itself - hence the need for the bypass caps. In addition,…"

Ron Curry replied to Rick Eis's discussion Low Dropout Regulator 5V 1A
"Not absolutely true. A lot of servos have a 6 volt spec because they put out a little more torque and are a little faster vs. 4.8 or 5.2v. However, there are lots of full size big, powerful servos from JR and Futaba that are spec'd at 4.8 to…"

Ron Curry replied to Rick Eis's discussion Low Dropout Regulator 5V 1A
"Rick, The opto isolation refers to the ESC signal lead - the white lead. If you remove, tie back, and insulate the read lead then you will disconnect the ESC BEC from the rest of the system. Robert's configuration is fine if you feel you must…"

Ron Curry replied to Rick Eis's discussion Low Dropout Regulator 5V 1A
"Dean is correct here. A linear regulator behaves, in simple terms, similar to a series dropping resistor. The larger the voltage drop required the more heat generated. The other issue is mounting. A 7805 is a part that's designed to mount on a…"

How long will unregulated FPV and RC last?

Another title might be "How long before we kill someone?".

Why such a provocative title? Well, a few days ago a fellow RC enthusiast approached me brimming with pride and sense of accomplishment. He wanted to tell me how he had flow his FPV RC airplane up to 3500 feet and in the clouds and successfully…
