I am trying to understand how the software can compensate for the error in GPS sensors and navigate a rover to a waypoint with accuracy. Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can begin to…Continue

Here are a couple pics of my GPSBot The processor is an ATMEGA32. The problem is the GPS sucks! The processor calculates the angle for the first waypoint, and constantly reclaculates the angle as it…Continue

"Those videos were from the original approach to the ardurover code. There has recently been lots of change with ardurover, as you discovered when you went to find that original video. The ArduRover link in the navigation menu links now to the…"

"I'll check out the HDOP. There used to be a video on the diydrones website. You could go to the main page and select ardurover and it would take you to a video of a couple of guys in a grassy area surrounded by a side walk. The sun had gone…"

"HDOP = Horizontal Dilution of Precision (check wikipedia for more details) Not sure what Ardupilot does but I can guarantee they're not using GPS alone. :) By the way, what video? Michael"

"Bot Thoughts   Thanks for taking a look.  I'll add a ground plane and see if that helps. I havent checked to see how many satellites I may be getting. It's always sunny and an open view of the sky when I am testing. I don't…"

"Relying on GPS alone is dicey. A good GPS can probably pull off 5m accuracy or so. 60-70 feet is about 20m which is pretty bad, yes. You can do several things to improve performance. One thing you can do to improve reception is to throw a ground…"

"Sounds Great! I use an Atmel ATMEGA 32, so the code will be very similar. You can get 3.3V voltage regulators pretty easily. I don't know how difficult that would be to implement with the Ardu hardware. How is the accuracy of the sensor? Does…"

My autonomous rover - GPSBot

Here are a couple pics of my GPSBot The processor is an ATMEGA32. The problem is the GPS sucks! The processor calculates the angle for the first waypoint, and constantly reclaculates the angle as it is moving, but when it finally thinks it has arrived at the waypoint, it may be 60 or 70 feet away! The way point data is collected when I walk to the location and press the red button. When it's time to retrace the waypoints I press the black button. My GPS sensor from parallax is probably a year…See More
