"Also make sure you have the quad firmware loaded, not hex. Easy mistake to make, hard to catch."

Scott Reid replied to Justin Hardin's discussion 12V power for a Tarot Gimbal on 4S
"I'd avoid a 78xx regulator, they are very ineffecient. I'd recommend a buck-converter based regulator, like most discrete BECs are. I use one of these to power my gimbal, video tx,, and minimosd from a 4s."

Scott Reid replied to Gerd Ulbers's discussion Two ESC with BEC, two batteries and one RC channel result's in problems
"I would not assume that the battery negative is the same as the BEC ground. On a somewhat related note, I would consider connecting the batteries in full parallel; i.e., tying the +s and -s together (with high current wiring/connectors).   This…"

Scott Reid replied to Gerd Ulbers's discussion Two ESC with BEC, two batteries and one RC channel result's in problems
"I would second Joes opinion. The second ground is definitely required. I'd begin by swapping escs to see if the problem follows. Also, once both grounds are connected as needed, you will need to recalibrate the escs if you originally did it…"

Scott Reid replied to armen t's discussion this site is purposely confusing
"Support for 3dr products is provided on ardupilot.com, not diydrones.com. Diydrones is not necessarily APM specific. Ardupilot.com is."

Scott Reid replied to david teles's discussion Where can i get good cf props
"Rctimer cf props are good for the money in my opinion. They might need a little more aggressive balancing than more expensive ones like graupners."

Scott Reid replied to Skye stubbins's discussion 3DR Y6 Will not Stabilize
"By using Loiter mode, you're having the software compensate for whatever the problem is.  The fact that Loiter can compensate probably just means that the leveling needs to be re-done.    You should be able to fly it in…"

Scott Reid replied to ArjanM's discussion Flight data shows yaw when compass removed with APM 2.0
"Yaw is computed with the output from both the accel and compass. If the compass is removed, one clue will be that it always starts up with heading 0."

Scott Reid replied to Skye stubbins's discussion 3DR Y6 Will not Stabilize
"Did you do the first step of the accel calibration with the craft perfectly level? I like to use A bubble level between the arms. Also, make sure the motors are connected to the correct outputs. Posting a log file may be in order if you're…"

Scott Reid replied to Skye stubbins's discussion 3DR Y6 Will not Stabilize
"Skye : Make sure you have uploaded the correct firmware (y6). The yaw when you start it up should reflect true compass orientation, not necessarily zero. Did you perform esc calibration? Are all of the props on correctly and motors spinning in the…"

Scott Reid replied to Serge Gonzales's discussion Be careful with loose connectors of non 3DR GPS units in the group ArduPlane User Group
"This is "best practice" for me on almost all connectors which rely on friction.  Normal hot glue has the benefit of being pretty easy to remove in this kind of application (plastic to plastic)"
