GPS / OSD interfacing with Arduino

Got a problem folks...I have an "Intuitive Circuits" OSD board that I bought a few years ago and am trying to connect it to a Ublox NEO6M GPS by using an Arduino Nano to parse the data stream.  I looked through the Tiny GPS code and found a program that parses the GPS strings perfectly over the USB buss on the Arduino. The problem is that I cant figure out how to send the serial data stream from the Arduino to the OSD board.I am using the Intuitive Circuits OSD-GPS board, Altitude version…See More

"Can antennas like that be used also with digital modulation links like telemetry links or even RC control, or there is some reason that they are not suitable? I mean coverleaf and maybe other typically FPV used antennas in general."

"I saw this as well when I attached the new board.  My thought was to put an adjustment platform under the circuit boards so the artificial horizon could be leveled out.  Much in the way a Telescope mirror is mounted on adjustable springs.…"

"No, It will still work but you just can't coat the elements.  The hardline can be coated and all of the solder joints. That wouldn't be a problem.  It is just that ghost capacities affect the matching of the antenna at microwave…"

"Yes, It turned out really nice.  It almost made me cry to strip the plastic back off the elements but I think Joe (above) was right.  It would detune the antenna at this frequency. It looks OK with the silver coating anyway.  I also…"

"Actually, I thought about that when I was painting the plastic on the antenna.  Not having an SWR meter for that frequency spooked me so I removed the coating from the elements as you suggested.  I did leave the hardline coated since I…"

"Mmm i thought this, so does this mean that very pretty antenna above just doesn't work very well, or was made slightly larger/smaller to compensate for the coating."

Gisela & Joe Noci replied to Skip Frombach's discussion A new twist on the IB Crazy 5.8ghz Cloverleaf
"DO NOT PAINT IT with the plastic!! The antenna resonance is dependent on on the length of the radiating elements, and this length is dependent on a number of factors: 1) Element diameter, ie, diameter of the wire or tubing used to make the antenna…"

Profile Information

About Me:
I am a physics / chemistry major with 35 years in the electronics / robotics field. However, most of my work has been confined to repair of advanced electronic systems and CNC machines. My side interests have always included RC Helicopters and VTOL UAV's. I followed the Sourceforge "RC Autopilot Project" when it first came out and became very interested in the control of a private UAV Helicopter. I built my own circuit cards for that project and also integrated some of my own control features. The Arduino Mega has now peaked my interest so I have purchased this board to go to the next phase of my project. i currently have a "Quick 30" Helicopter fully outfitted with remote vidoe and long distance telemetry by methods of my own design. Eager to learn more.
