One motor spinning too slow??

Started this discussion. Last reply by Steve Castano Jul 30, 2011. 5 Replies

So I've been tracking down some motor/ESC related problems and today I replaced a bad ESC from a motor that had been "stuttering" then giving up as it got too hot. The new ESC is in and working and…Continue

Bad motor? (again) Bad ESC maybe?

I thought I had a bad motor but...... When I first start the quad it seems like everything is fine. (maybe because its all cool?) Then I can fly around for a few minutes..... seems to stay in the air…Continue

"If you want redundancy, Y6/Hexa is not recommended. If you lose a motor you will lose considerable lift. I have built quads, coax quads, hexas and y6s. The only configuration that still actually flies very well in a motor-out scenario is the coax…"

"For those in doubt, let's update this topic a bit. I had a flat hexa and spent lot of time for tuning PID for failsafe redundancy (disconnecting one motor while running for tests). I could never make it as stable and reactive as I wished but I…"

"Y6 seems to work. I found this video of a motor failure http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1400855 and even a better example a few days ago but I can't find it for the moment."

"X8 is a X4 with two motors per arm... they both spin the same direction and are connected to the same output channel.   if you want redundancy you need to over engineer it so it would work as an X4 then add 4 more motors. basically you need…"

"an accelerometer would work to Craig.  Also add a small servo or solenoid  release so you can active it manually. I'm definitely add this to me new project"

Steve Castano replied to Steve Castano's discussion One motor spinning too slow??
"OK..... so I'm doing the manual calibration and that seems to be going fine, but what I'm noticing is a lot of resistance in that motor. When the ESC has power, its almost like its trying to hold the motor in place. Its harder to turn it…"

One motor spinning too slow??

So I've been tracking down some motor/ESC related problems and today I replaced a bad ESC from a motor that had been "stuttering" then giving up as it got too hot. The new ESC is in and working and the motor does start up now.... but the problem is that the motor on the new ESC (jdrones 30A) spins much slower than the others. I have re-done the ESC calibration, but I'm wondering if maybe I'm doing it wrong? what else might be causing this one ESC to keep that motor running too slow?? *SMCSee More

"OK, so I've replaced the ESC now, done a full ESC calibration..... and the motor attached to the new one I just put in is definitely spinning much slower than the other motors!   Any ideas?    "
