"It turns out that it was the lack of a solder jumper on the tiny SJ1 bridge....  one dab of solder, and now the board is powered... with or without the USB connection. Thanks for the help!"

I've just about got my Arducopter Quad (with the APM 1 board set) ready to fly...I can connect with the MavLink... have the ESC's calibrated, and motors turning in the correct direction.I can see the radio control inputs in the software set-up.... everything seems ready to go.But when I disconnect the MavLink, and the USB cable.... I no longer have RC control of the copter. Is there something I am missing about saving settings... or disconnecting from the USB?  If I can't figure this out, I'm…See More

"Thanks... It's an APM1... the speed is definitely at 115,500 (I'm not at the right computer at the moment, so that number may not be exact.)  The documentation says that the Port number is shown in Mission Planner, but I'm darned…"

About Me:
Coming up on my 50th anniversary of my first RC flight... I've flown just about everything from RC pattern, pylon racers, sailplanes, helicopters, aerotowing sailplanes... you name it.
Tell us a bit about your UAV interest
Transitioning from doing aerial photography with a conventional helicopter (Maxi Jokers, Vario Silence, and Logo 500) to multi-copters. I'm planning on getting a Cinestar 8, but in the meantime, I've acquired an Arducopter, and am trying to learn to program it.
