Oprical and Sonar Sensors

So in a spending spree I picked up a Optical sensor (the ADNS3080) and on looking to add it I am a bit confused.... It seems both the optical and the sonar use the same pin on the APM (well at least for the APM1 board) so I was wondering what other folk have done here? Ideally I would like to use both, for no other reason than I can..... Any other pins I can connect the optical sensor to? Thanks, TonySee More

"Right following ion from Crispin's blog post here http://diydrones.com/profiles/blogs/spektrum-dx8-and-ar8000-failsafe-setup , I set up the failsafe and went to test.....   Mixed results, really.   Quad was very stable all round,…"

"I'd say it's unlikely.  Phone towers are relatively low power and spread across a band. If it was a TV, FM or AM broadcast transmitter, then I'd say yes.  I've had my GPS clobbered when within about 500m of a TV tower."

"So for the benefit of others, Tony and I live about a mile apart.  We were pondering a few minutes ago about where he was flying. It's a farmer's field but the corner where Tony was has a cell tower not that far from it. Maybe 100m…"

"Interesting find Crispin, I thought I had read that before, so to me this is a APM failsafe. Will look at this in a bit more detail tomorrow.  Also did some testing with range again, and compared to another DX8 radio and similar set up we got…"

"Is the APM fail safe not when you set the rx to output less than 950uS. That way the APM knows it's all gone Pete Tong and  it needs to do what you preset i.e. RTL. it's got nothing to do with channel 7. Just found…"

"The way it works is that, with the aircraft on the ground, no motor power, you put your radio in the condition you want the failsafe.  So, all sticks at neutral, and RTL mode selected.  Then you push a button on... I think it's on the…"

"But if you can't program it in the actual radio, then you can program the RX different?"

"I am looking into that now.  I want the Failsafe to be my RTL.  It is a little scary knowing that I really don't have a Failsafe."

"I have the Futaba T7C.  I was just reading through the manual and it tells me that only channel three can be set.  I need a new radio"

"Really?  What Radio?  I'm using an FrSky radio in a Futaba, and I can set the failsafe to be anything I want. What good is a failsafe that just holds the last known output?"

"Yes, you could set Ch7 option to RTL, and then trigger that in your receiver failsafe. Or, the way I have it done, is RTL is one of my flight modes, and I simply set the Rx failsafe to that. So, if I turn off my Tx, the Rx will output all sticks…"

"I was just checking my radio and haveing the F/S would not even help.  it would keep the throttle at one position and the others channels to the last know fixed position.  Well if you were flying away from you it will just keep going until…"
