Hi, I just tested to put three 5,5V 1.5F ultracapacitors parallel and connected the system to the APM power rail. APM stayed alive 10 seconds when normal LIPO/ESC was disconnected. Telemetry radio…Continue

Radio Fail safe function works only in "manual modes"

Why does throttle failsafe work only when you are in MAN, STAB, FBW A/B modes. If you are in any NAV-mode like AUTO or Guided the throttle fail safe or RTL will not activate. Why is this like this?…Continue

Hi, I just tested to put three 5,5V 1.5F ultracapacitors parallel and connected the system to the APM power rail. APM stayed alive 10 seconds when normal LIPO/ESC was disconnected. Telemetry radio was also connected to the APM and transmitting full power.During normal LIPO battery usage the VCC looked very steady even if I made some heavy servo and ESC throttle movements every 10 seconds for 5 seconds each time. The capacitor system weights 14 grams and it is not much bigger than a five cent…See More

Dual APM UAV

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 2:20pm 40 Comments

I was thinking about an idea of a redundant UAV with 2 x APMs, 2 x RXs, Dual Servos/surfaces, 2 x ESCs and 2 x motors. The plane should be designed so that it could fly with only one motor if needed.

The idea of functionality:

  • If something in APM(A) network fails or works…
