UAV Flight from Vieques to Puerto Rico!

Posted on February 26, 2010 at 8:48am 20 Comments

Hello Everyone,

I am an aerospace engineering Ph.d student at a university in New York and also the teaching assistant for an undergraduate course in aircraft design which will be partly taught in Puerto Rico. One of the main objectives for the course is that the studens have to design, document, and build radio control airplanes following traditional design formulae. Having following this community for a while, I proposed to the…

Help checking the status of IMU and Kalman Filter

Posted on February 8, 2009 at 9:03pm 2 Comments

Hello everyone, I've been visiting the website for a while and have enjoyed reading the discussions here, but this is my first official post. I am working on hovering my co-axial helicopter and decided to do this using the Propeller chip, and specifically using the Sparkfun 5 DOF IMU and Jason Wood's code which we all appreciate. To make a long story short, I downloaded the code successfully to the development board with the IMU and ADC soldered according to the circuit in the code, but I am… Continue

I am interested in this project.
I am in RC 20 yrs currently active in IMAC owned 35, 50, 80 and 157 cc engine.
The DA 50 currently not on plane, good candidate for this 20 km flight.
I start Auduino this Jan, I have the V2.46 successfully loaded into the Mega328
I worked for Boeing but laid off last year. Master degree MS CS from Texas A&M.
I have time to join you on this project.

Hello, That's great that you are interested in this project, it's quite ambitious for me so I will need all the help I can get, perhaps we can be partners in this effort; you a computer scientist and I an aerospace engineer, great combination! Have you test flown the Arduino system on an airplane yet, let me know your progress. That's too bad that you were laid off from Boeing. Stay tuned for more information on the project once I get up and running. -Victor

Please post as discussion, not suitable as blog:

Hello DIY Community,

My team and I are in need of atmoshpheric wind data ASAP for university research purposes measured via a pitot tube mounted on-board a UAV flight system. Since we don't currently have the capability to fly an autonomous (APM or otherwise) RC aircraft, I am looking for a qualified individual or a small consultancy company whom we can partner with to operate their UAV and gather our wind velocity data.

We are prepared to pay for this service on a day-by-day basis. Ideally, we are looking for a gas/ nitro twin-boom type UAV design where the probe can be mounted on the nose.

If you know of a small UAV company or individual who may be able to provide this service (in the New York or Northeast region the better) I would really appreciate if you could leave me a comment and I will be sure to follow up with you. Thanks so much.

Regards,

Victor
