I bought my APM 2.0 before it was actually available, and spent a long time waiting for it to finally arrive..mounted it on my home brew quad and went into tuning hell...I never got it to where it…Continue

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"I'm not an expert by any stretch, I don't play one on TV, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night...so take my input with a grain of salt. The first thing I notice in the logs is that you haven't done a Compass Motor…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"Yes, I think that is correct.  If you change the switch from off to on to off, I think you will turn off the fence and make it so it will respond to the switch.  I'd run a test to make sure though."

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"Yes, the firmware changed...but it was a BIG change.  It added a whole new way of dealing with position hold.  It affects all of the autopilot modes. As such, it adds a whole new level of sensitivity to a couple things that didn't…"

"Let's all just take a deep breath and calm ourselves a little bit. I think we can all understand Ryan's frustration with a crash that he doesn't understand.  He's pointed out a number of times that he doesn't know where…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0.1 released!
"What Craig didn't tell you in his reply is that the behavior you experience is what the controller is supposed to do, based on current programming.  It's been covered somewhere back in this monster thread. The controller will default…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0 ready for wider use
"All presume a fully functional APM and failsafe. It seems to me that the advice in scenarios when things go badly is "switch to Stabilize mode, recover, land and investigate".  Adding extra layers of complexity also invite additional…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0 ready for wider use
"Thank you.  I've worked with ONE board, so I was relying on your experience with thousands to help me identify the risks associated with the modification. I think I understand that your reluctance is related to this being an unfamiliar…"

"I'd like to actually understand why you "would not suggest removing the shield".  Please assume I am capable of the work, and that I have valid and rational reasons to do so."

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0 ready for wider use
"Why would you suggest not removing it? It seems to me that it was an option when I purchased mine that the shield could either be soldered to the main board, or separated with a cable to link them. My biggest motivation in removing it would be to…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter-3.0 ready for wider use
"I have an APM2 (NOT 2.5) and have wondered the same thing.  The GPS and Magnetometer are located on a small daughter board that is soldered to the main APM board.  It also has the SDcard on board.  The overview of the board is linked…"

"Wow, found this in my search through the part 97 rules...With regard to sharing of spectrum, part 97.303(n)  (2) No amateur station shall transmit from those portions of Texas and New Mexico that are bounded by latitudes 31°41' and…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter 2.9 / 2.9.1 released
"Cool.  It seems that Part 97 will allow these transmitters to be legally operated. I'm not aware of any easing of the requirement for FCC ID number and certifications, at least for the Part 15 transmitters I've worked with.…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter 2.9 / 2.9.1 released
"Sounds like you are very familiar with part 97 of the rules...That seems to me to be the most likely place for this radio to comply with FCC rules and be legal. I am very sure that it is not a 15.247 transmitter.  That rule set requires a…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter 2.9 / 2.9.1 released
"I don't think the 433 radios are legal for HAM...There is no provision to transmit your call sign.  That's required in the HAM band, AFAIK, but I'm not familiar with Part 97 of CFR 47. There is an Amateur band in the 902-928Mhz…"

William Stoner replied to Randy's discussion ArduCopter 2.9 / 2.9.1 released
"I am quite sure that the 3DR radios have no certifications anywhere in the world.  That doesn't mean they are illegal to sell or operate.   What I don't know, and have asked, is ARE they legal to sell and operate in the USA, and…"
