the openpilot board I have is very smooth and wobble free once the PIDs were tuned. My APM2, OTOH is giving me more of a challenge. I just cannot get rid of the bounce without the controls feeling…Continue

APM2 strange behavior

Started this discussion. Last reply by chris g Feb 15, 2012. 9 Replies

I took my APM2/Y6 out for its maiden today. At first, it seemed ok, a little wobbly, but this is only with a few PID iterations. Something just doesn't feel right though. After some forward flight in…Continue

APM2 stabilization model

Was wondering if the APM2 stabilization model shared any fundamental concepts with the open pilot model? Or is it an evolution of the 1.x model?Continue

"i would recommend flashng the escs with the simonk firmware. my quad flew noticeably smoother. i had good success with APM1 but  i have not even gotten to the gps stuff on the new board. still focusing on the flight characteristics"

"I have hard times setting it up too. Using 750kv rctimer motors (tried with 3s or 4s without any big changes). 20A rctimer escs. Mounted in Hexa frame, 11x5 props. and can't get it very stable. What do you think of flashing custom firmware into…"

anyone have an OpenPilot and APM2

the openpilot board I have is very smooth and wobble free once the PIDs were tuned. My APM2, OTOH is giving me more of a challenge. I just cannot get rid of the bounce without the controls feeling like mush.  I was wondering if anyone with both boards have gotten them to perform the same? The only thing I can think of is that I reflashed the ESCs on my openpilot board with the simonk fw. The APM2 has the non flashable silabs ESCs. If I can get my APM2 flying as smooth as the OP board, it will…See More

chris g replied to Steve Castano's discussion Motor redundancy..... Y6? X8? Hexa? Octa? something new?
"If you want redundancy, Y6/Hexa is not recommended. If you lose a motor you will lose considerable lift. I have built quads, coax quads, hexas and y6s. The only configuration that still actually flies very well in a motor-out scenario is the coax…"
