Airspeed sensor influence on FBW_A

Started this discussion. Last reply by Hans Miller May 31, 2012. 3 Replies

Hi All,I have tuned my APM (without airspeed sensor) in a Skywalker for good FBW_A flight according to the documentation. Roll control is crisp, maintains ~45% on full-stick and doesn't lose…Continue

DO_JUMP and behavior at completion of mission

Started this discussion. Last reply by david.collett Sep 20, 2012. 2 Replies

Hi All,I'm pretty new to DIY drones, having had about a dozen or so flights now with my APM in a Skywalker.Currently I don't have  a data radio (xbee) so I setup my missions prior to takeoff with APM…Continue

david.collett replied to Andrew Tridgell's discussion ArduPlane 2.67 released
"Hi Tridge, Some receivers (such as frsky D4R-II and D8R) output rx RSSI as PWM on one of their regular servo output pins (once the rx has been put into PPM mode, freeing the pins up), would it be possible to support such receivers? e.g. if RSSI_PIN…"

david.collett replied to Gábor Zoltán's discussion Adding extra functions to MinimOSD
"For the record, I've seen this problem with my MinimOSD running the upstream v2.0 firmware. I can't reliably switch screens and it often disappears completely and never comes back (until reset). FWIW, I have not soldered the jumper to join…"

david.collett replied to Rick Eis's discussion Flying with Minimum OSD and one battery
"I don't think the analog (video) side requires 12v at all, mine runs on 5v, which is what my (fatshark) camera uses and it works fine. Not quite sure why its labelled 12v."

david.collett replied to david.collett's discussion DO_JUMP and behavior at completion of mission
"Well as depressing as it is, I haven't flown since I made that post! (too busy with kids). There have been a number of JUMP related bugs referenced in recent releases, are you using the latest? Another option if you cant get it working is the…"

"Hi David,  Did you ever get the DO_JUMP command working? Was the problem indeed the parameter location? Regards, Mike Christiansen"

david.collett replied to Darren Stan Oakley's discussion CamOne Infinity
"nice. I can't see any mention of tv-out(composite) which is a shame, so looks like you cant connect it to an video tx for a realtime feed/FPV setup. That works well on the gopro. Its not clear on the CamOne, but It looks like it may be able to…"

david.collett replied to John_NY's discussion MediaTek GPS or OilPan Problem
"If the behaviour changes with the oilpan connected, then I guess you may have some sort of power or hardware issue :( I think I was a bit confused and thought you were running your sketch on an additional arduino *between* the GPS and APM, but I see…"

david.collett replied to John_NY's discussion MediaTek GPS or OilPan Problem
"Hi, Note that when you connect an MTK GPS (with DIYDrones firmware) to an APM, the APM instructs it to switch to a more compact binary protocol rather than NMEA and the output stream will no longer be legible in a serial console. It's possible…"

david.collett replied to Dirk's discussion Plane starts pumping while descending. Altitute oscillations
"Actually, it looks like there is a newer skywalker.param than the one I last saw (skywalker062311) with more sensible servo PIDS ( ~1 vs ~3). So you could start there and just turn them down further (try halving to 0.5 and you should see behaviour…"

david.collett replied to Dirk's discussion Plane starts pumping while descending. Altitute oscillations
"Hi Dirk, It's probably "Servo Pitch PID" that is too high. However, I'd suggest you may wish to reset the arudupilot and start again with the default settings following this page to tune the PID's…"

david.collett replied to IronStone's discussion Flight mode 6 not changeable / locked in APM mission planner ?
"Good question, I believe it is recommended not to use channel 8 at all for mode-setting on arducopter. Invoking manual override and sending rx signals straight to your escs on a copter is almost certainly a bad thing since the arducopter code is…"

david.collett replied to Curt Olson's discussion Compiling ArduPlane in the group Learning to program the Ardupilot Mega
"The changelog says that relax is there, so it should be. I suspect the problem could be that the code is simply too big (despite relax patch) for the 1280 board. I believe the 2560 is the main target for the devs these days, and you may have to…"

david.collett replied to IronStone's discussion Flight mode 6 not changeable / locked in APM mission planner ?
"Hi, Mode 6 is not changeable because at that setting (>1750ms PWM pulse-width), a hardware manual override is invoked and chan 1-4 are passed straight to the servos and not into the APM at all. I understand this is done within the PWM encoder,…"

david.collett replied to david.collett's discussion Airspeed sensor influence on FBW_A
"A quick look at Attitude.pde suggests that the servo pids *do* need re-tuning as the servo output is scaled based upon what speed info the APM has. When there is no airspeed sensor, it uses the throttle servo output as an indicator, when there is an…"
