I have been wanting to fully document my SAGAR (Semi Autonomous GPS Assisted Rover) for some time now, and the 'ardupilot goes into the water' series has been so entertaining, it gave me the motivation to finally start. The first post was simply a demonstration of the LabView ground station, which has been redesigned one last time before my girlfriend is turning in the project. First I'll show the new interface, and talk about how it communicates with SAGAR, and give some…
A video below demonstrates how Skilligent
Visual Localization System can be used to solve an outdoor localization
problem. The camera is mounted under the belly of an unmanned aerial
vehicle (UAV). The camera is used to search for visual landmarks on the
ground (a terrain matching based navigation)
The creator explains: "No jailbreaking. No WiFi. Stock receivers. I fly model airplanes and helicopters with my iPhone. I use an off-the-shelf 2.4GHz module and a custom iPhone app. The app is now in beta testing.
I use the phone's headphone jack to communicate with the Spektrum module. I make no modifications to the module or the receivers. This application does not use WiFi, Internet, external servers or microcontrollers."
Who knew the SP guys had competitions where they race around a triangle pattern of GPS coordinates? View results on Google Earth, get addional details from the plane to the ground station... Lots more.

Finally surrendered the ground station to tethering. It was a long battle with 72Mhz, 2.4Ghz XBees, & 900Mhz FSK but we never had enough money to make it reliable enough. Still using a custom transmitter with 8 channels. Went with a 2 conductor audio cable & 1/4" TRS connectors for the most reliable connection possible.
Nothing is more reliable than the 1/4" TRS connector,… Continue
Over the last couple days I have been raping my bank account and getting everything together to make my UAV. This is by far one of the most exciting projects I have done. For only have being a member on this site for a couple months now, the benefits from this site and the help and the community has had a great impact on me as well as my informational well being on UAV design and technology. My knowledge has expanded far beyond the reaches I could have ever imagined by becoming a member of DIY… Continue
