Demonstration of ArduCopter Autonomous Flight Capabilities

Hi all,

I've made two videos showing the ArduCopter Auto (and RTL in second video) capabilities of ArduCopter.

The first video is a flight with 5 waypoints at varying altitudes and includes AutoLand.

I only did not include Auto Takeoff in these videos but can confirm that also works well. There was limited takeoff space so I took…

Minimalist ArduCopter 3DR build

Hi guys, I just wanted to share some photos of my minimalist ArduCopter 3DR. The APM is using Jason Short's power hack, a Spektrum adapter, and a DSM2 remote Rx. the OilPan is standard except for the compass, which is one of the first ten or so HMC5883L prototype boards from a while ago. The rest of the frame is mostly stock (arms, ESCs, motors), but the stack-up is a little shorter than usual, and…

I can't meet Chris, but …

I visit regularly this site since January, 2011, and I was attracted by the quality of the exchanges, the blogs, Wiki, explanations etc. …

Before choosing for a platform, I visited about ten of the other community,

sometimes, more technical, or more playful, more...etc

But !

nobody is also clear, effective and positive in the communication as DIYDrones,

My first "major" crash!

I have never had a major crash (except some stupid nosedives) until today.

After the first waypoint ArduPilot suddenly decided my EasyStar was to high, and before I could recover control it disappeared behind some tress.

It was quit a loud bang when it hit, whatever it hit.

Lucky it wasn't dead, so I could track the plane from the sound of the engine.…

ArduCopter Quad Assembly and the first flight with camera on board

Hello everybody! I have recently finished my ArduCopter assembly process, made a few flights without payload and a few days ago made the first flight with camera onboard. Unfortunately, it's not HD and the quality is not so good, but it's only beginning! My first impressions are awesome, I enjoyed assembling the copter and I'm sure I will enjoy flying it.… Continue

Primary Stage of "Winging It"

We are making quick progress on design, feature, and purpose ideas for our new autonomous concept aircraft. After sketching 4 possible models of planes that we could build, we have decided on one design that we are currently building out of insulation foam. After testing this much simplified version of our plane, we will propose changes that should be made to the design which should improve our final product.

The design we selected for our concept plane (picture of the sketch…

Rutgers students using APM: "Winging it: the Plane of the Future"

We are a group of 5 students attending the New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering and Technology. The Governor's School is a prestigious program at Rutgers University offered to students the summer before their senior year exposing them to many different applications and varieties of engineering. Students are nominated by their schools to apply for the competitive program, which is provided at no cost to them due to funding from multiple companies, Rutgers University, and the NJ State…

ArduPilot Mega Test Flight

I have done a few test flights with ArduPilot Mega at the recent weekend. Everything was perfect and I decided to make a video about operating with APM at the field. I hope it will be interesting for newbies and useful for those, who wonder how APM works in real conditions.

TrIMUpter: Full stabilisation and GPS position hold with an ArduIMU+ v2

TrIMUpter - GPS Position hold test with ArduIMU + GPS EM406 on Vimeo.

Hello, I have successfully tested the GPS position hold with my TrIMUpter (a VTOL tricopter).

The full stabilisation process is simply done with:

- an ArduIMU+ V2 flat,

- a triple axis magnetometer (HMC5843),

- a GPS EM406,

so this is a very cheap setup.

Below a photo of the setup…

Drone GCS: Qt/OsgEarth based ground station designed for APM

This is the Qt GCS that James and I have been working on. It still needs some work but it uses cross-platform libraries and the CMake build system. It uses OsgEarth, an open source equivalent to Google Earth. The GCS can load many 3d model types including the cool FlightGear Models. Right now it mostly uses pop-up menus for editing waypoints (triggered by shift-click). Its a work in progress so not everything is hooked up yet. It was developed on a linux system but has…

Loading a Waypoint in the Air with XBees

Hey everybody, me and my friend Chester would like to share our implementation of loading a waypoint into the ArduPilot in air. We use XBee radios, NewSoftSerial, and our own GCS written in Java (using Andrew Rapp's xbee-api) to do this. Our GCS was originally designed to facilitate a collision avoidance system for multiple UAVs (this is part of a research project at Auburn University), but we've added a small GUI to allow the user to type in their own waypoint to push to the…

They specifically mention a UAV project on running on ArduPilot
