FPV learning set

As I'm starting off with FPV I didn't want to sacrifice my 'good' quad so I build a smaller one based upon the DJI330 frame.

This is how it looks like

It is a quick and maybe dirty solution but to learn FPV with low cost, it will certainly do.

The FPV setup is powered from a separate 1S lipo.

The TX I got here

The camera…

Honey, I shrunk the Parrot AR Drone.

I may have found my next toy. About a year ago, elsewhere on the internet, I predicted RTF sub-$200 FPV quads would soon hit the market, and the hobby would really take off, no pun intended. Recently, I wrote about the…

DIY vario and head tracker

Hi,

I build a couple of DIY electronic devices from open source projects.

I thought those could be useful to someone here on DIYDrones and they deserve a little visibility here too.

They are based on Arduino Nano and very cheap to build.

In this video I'm using both for the first time, with my…

3D Robotics
3DR at 2013 MultiRotor Challenge!

3D Robotics had a great weekend at the First Annual MultiRotor Challenge. We were there both Saturday and Sunday and competed in most of the events, including a fully autonomous demo mission with a Stock 3DR Hexacopter. In the Auto-Land Competition, APM powered Multi's got 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place! We also won…

Deep Reaper Final Adventures (and crash)

An exciting, action-packed compilation of the best flights from the last few months of my FPV Deep Reaper's life, featuring lots of fun proximity flying at various locations around Colorado's Front Range. At the end is the video of my plane's unfortunate demise when I accidentally flew through the signal beam of a TV tower on Mt. Morrison, causing my elevon gyros to…

"In My Dreams" - FPV Video from Team Echelon

Some might have seen this but I'm posting it to my blog as it seems this is the spot to post stuff like this. Lots of fun in FPV we're having:

Shot across California from the Bay Area to El Mirage and a few spots in between. Special thanks to our fellow flyers and spotters. ;)

Video Buddy Station

Here is something that I put together that is pretty simple, but nice to have..

I obtained a  9" LCD TV that runs on 12V DC and the idea was to provide a spotter a way to see what I am seeing while flying with my Fatshark goggles.

I use 5.8 GHZ for video and my goggles have a 5.8 GHZ receiver…

Small FPV Setup 2.4Ghz

200 mW TX on a 120mAh Lipo runs about 30 mins. Total weight with Lipoly 6.2 Grams, only 3.6 Grams with a 5V regulator so it runs of the main battery. The image is not great on a single Lipo cell. I will try it connected to a spare port on the RX see what the signal is like.…

ArduCutter Matures - Becomes A Drone

The last post was almost laughable as ArduCutter barley got off the ground and certainly didn't do much in the way of entertaining. Well, it still isn't ready for Vegas however I've been feeling pretty good about the progress especially since the project was started with a strategy of hope. In the past week or so I have successfully put this quad through many of the basic flight modes and everyone walked away with no broken bones and no blood spilled. A…

RQ-11 DIY UAV Project Part 2

What I have left to do:

  1. Add Digital Camo to Parts of Wing
  2. add servos and connect wires to rudder and elevator
  3. possibly add ardupilot
  4. possibly add FPV flying

I'm looking for suggestions on any mods or upgrades I can do to this RQ-11.  I hope the Video was enjoyable and educational.…
