Phoenard: World's first all-in-one prototyping gadget as your Drone Controller?

Phoenard; The project currently running on Kickstarter.

It has lot of peripherals built in which is more than capable to be your next Drone controller.

10-degrees of freedom sensor, Accelerometer, gyro, magnetometer and barometer are included and powered by ATMEGA2560, identical to the one use on APM. Plenty of PWM GPIO pins are also available. The GPS, GSM and GPRS module are embedded by default as well on board.

The full color LCD might be handy as…

Flying my ArduIMU in tri_chord space

I haven't flown much of anything because of the weather, so I decided to see if I could do something different with my ArduIMU.  I decided that if I could get a MIDI port to read the IMU, I might be able to make music.

I used a VBscript to read the serial port and send pitch data from the ArduIMU to a slot.  I then used a MIDI program to record the…

Quaternion based AHRS using AltIMU-10 & Arduino

I've made a quaternion based AHRS with bonus altitude and temperature sensing using an AltIMU-10 and an Arduino Nano. It can print out orientation in either Euler angles (heading, pitch, roll), a north-east-down rotation matrix or as a quaternion over UART serial.

  • 50hz update rate
  • Half second warm up time. Usually it…

HeavyDuty Antenna tracker

Time to start build next version of antenna trackers. As antennas are getting bigger and bigger we planned to make one heavyduty antenna tracker that can turn 2kg antenna clusters.

Basic tech:

  • 360 yaw with 1 degree accuracy
  • -5 - 90…

DIY vario and head tracker

I build a couple of DIY electronic devices from open source projects.

I thought those could be useful to someone here on DIYDrones and they deserve a little visibility here too.

They are based on Arduino Nano and very cheap to build.

In this video I'm using both for the first time, with my…

Autonomous (Camera & IMU based) localization for a Parrot AR.DRONE Quadrotor

In this video the application of a Visual-Inertial (Camera & IMU) localization algorithm on a Parrot AR.DRONE quadrotor, for enabling real-time GPS-denied autonomous navigation, is presented.

A sensor package for data logging, consisting of a Beaglebone computer, an…

Let's talk about Inertial Dead Reckoning!

I've been thinking a lot lately about how cool it would be to implement inertial dead reckoning on ArduCopter for a gps-free loiter mode of sorts. I just wanted to get some discussion going from people who have studied this or have tried implementing it, as I know it is difficult.

To begin with, this is a good…

Acceleration compensation: flight testing

I have recently performed flight tests on a major change in the way acceleration is accounted for in performing roll-pitch drift compensation from accelerometer measurements. The theory behind the idea was recently published in a…

AttoPilot Voltage Kit

APM Mission Planner is adding more support for the AttoPilot Voltage Sensor. Thus the Open Hardware Store has introduced a voltage sensor kit that is ready to be used and you just need to plug it in and configure Ardupilot. It comes with XT60-connectors and a 15cm long servo cable to connect to the…

Propeller DCM

This is a Parallax Propeller chip running a partial implementation of Premerlani and Bizard's work on Direction Cosine Matrix computation for orientation sensing. I'm hoping to use this in a quad-rotor without a GPS or magnetometer - I wanted to see how good the algorithm was at stabilizing pitch and roll.  So far it looks very promising.

All the work is done on the Propeller itself. It reads the gyro and accelerometer values on one core, and computes the DCM… Continue
