3D Robotics
A little bit about me.

Hey Everyone, my name is Justin Cunningham and I'm a member of the flight team at 3D Robotics. I have been working for the company since the beginning of last May, and it has been, BY FAR, the best job I've ever had. I started out in production, so that means some of those GPS, radio telemetry,…

Very good anti-vibration results with following APM2.5 mount, quad/ customized 3D robotics frame

Hi,

I have measured very good Zaccel vibrations with this mounting system. It consists of a suspended acrylic base plate (3mm thick) on which a silicon pad (6mm thick) is placed. The APM case is placed on it with a little pressure from a velcro band.

The O-rings go through holes on each corner of…

3D Mapping With Your Drone

Making a 3D model of something with pictures isn't something new to most of us, but there have been a lot of people getting into drones recently and I wanted to show something useful you can do with your drone. Autodesk's 123D Catch has a very useful feature not everyone knows about; Once you have your 3D…

Microstrain 3DM-GX3-45 Integration

Hi Guys, I have been a bit slack with my updates lately. The Microstrain AHRS has been integrated onto the plane and the driver for LabVIEW real-time is working however I have run out of time to develop it for FPGA. I got it mostly working in FPGA but that last 20% was taking too much time so I just went for easy the RT driver that I had already made.…

Minimalist ArduCopter 3DR build

Hi guys, I just wanted to share some photos of my minimalist ArduCopter 3DR. The APM is using Jason Short's power hack, a Spektrum adapter, and a DSM2 remote Rx. the OilPan is standard except for the compass, which is one of the first ten or so HMC5883L prototype boards from a while ago. The rest of the frame is mostly stock (arms, ESCs, motors), but the stack-up is a little shorter than usual, and…

  • Installed & tested water bottle drop mechanism
  • Installed and calibrated IR sensors.
  • Installed & tested GPS
  • Due to issues with the ppm encoder i have only achieved partial system integration however I am still able to switch between full-auto mode and…

Semi successful manual flight - Rescue Robotics (2010OBC)

Hi All,

The plane was successfully flown in manual (RC) mode however the motor blew up approximately 2 minutes into the flight. The following footage (20 seconds) is of the plane gliding in for a smooth landing after motor failure (please excuse the camera shake my little bother was filming).
