Flying the Phantom indoors...

I just finished my first actual useful flight trying to do something productive with my DJI Phantom. Very impressed with how it works, although I've done a fair number of modifications to it. Everything you see in the video was shot with a GoPro Hero 3 Black, 1080p30. All the flying was done in ATTI mode, except the exterior shot which was in GPS most. Wind was at…

Simple Variable Pitch for Brushless Motor

With a brushless motor and a TRex tail rotor mechanism I could assemble a simple variable pitch system. I measured and it generates 700g with the TRex 500 tail rotor blades.

I tried the Trex 250 blades from the main rotor but although they are longer the thrust is smaller, just 400g. This is probably because the motor doesn't have enough…

Brushless Gimbal for my build.

As I progress with my build I am doing research into building my own brushless gimbal frame using spare carbon fibre and control based on the Alex Mos board http://www.simplebgc.com/eng/. I have spent the last week looking at suitable motors.

Looking…

Easy Star brushless outrunner mod.

Since I've had such problems with buying a brushless in-runner, I've got brushless outrunner instaed.

To mount it in the plane, I've used motor mount (that was a problem to find in my country too) from the twinstar,

slightly modified.

Pictures will tell the story.…

Gauging Interest: 4 Channel ESC for Brushless Motors (RS232/PWM/I2C + Atmel AVR's!)

I am designing (and may soon produce) a 4 channel electronic speed controller (ESC) for brushless RC motors.

The Problem

It seems as though everybody who builds a quadcopter uses 4 individual PWM ESC's (that are often zip-tied to the rotor arms).
