Another quad that i found on hobbyking. It caught my eye as it has a monitor inbuilt to the controller. I've seen a few concept controllers maybe this could work?
A nice shortcut to newcomers with a 3-axis gyro stabilization system.
3.5" LCD screen which matches some phones.Range is limited but i suppose some hacking might sort…Continue
I have been interested in the world of UAVs and quadcopters for some time now, but have never moved much beyond my few single rotor RC helicopters. Back in December, I purchased my first quad, a HeliMax 1SQ to try my hand at flying something other than single rotor helicopters. It is a fun little quad, but very limiting in ability to carry anything. As I am wanting…Continue
Canon just annonced a new high sensivity camera with low noise. A new age for FPV night age is coming ?
Unfortunately I'm unable to embed video, so you have to click on the image to go to the Canon website.
The newly developed CMOS sensor features pixels measuring 19 microns square in size, which is more than 7.5-times the surface area of the pixels on the…
Here's a simple servo-controlled very light GoPro mount for any UAV. I have machine tools to make this, but you might be able to do it with simple home tools. The real trick is a direct connection between the servo and the camera rotator, and to use a control link ball (left side in photo) so you don't need to hit…Continue
I have been wondering about how to mount my GoPro camera to the 3DR Camera Tilt Gimbal and found a solution so simple yet so ingenious (if I may say so myself) that I thought it would be worth sharing.
This is my second GoPro camera. The first one broke as it fell off the Gimbal during rough…Continue
In this video the application of a Visual-Inertial (Camera & IMU) localization algorithm on a Parrot AR.DRONE quadrotor, for enabling real-time GPS-denied autonomous navigation, is presented.
A sensor package for data logging, consisting of a Beaglebone computer, an…Continue
What would you like to see in a thermal pan tilt platform to make it effective for UAV usage?
I am with a company called SPI Corp and we manufacture a low cost multi sensor pan tilt platform called the M1-D. The M1-D initially was developed for use on ground vehicles but due to its light weight, small size and low cost it has become very popular with folks in the aerial imaging world…Continue
An improved battery box for my FPV plane project. The front wheel need mounting on a spring piece, as do the rear struts. I don't like…Continue

A couple months ago we announced the Aeromapper UAV: a versatile all-composite, low cost UAV mainly aimed for mapping applications, but also being used as a multipurpose UAV platform for its great versatility, performance and great internal volume for different payloads.
It is offered in 3 different options: as a kit, as a RTF with all the…
I love my Canon mark 2 and gopro camera but it's absolutely terrible as a quadcopter camera.
The vibrations coupled with the CMOS sensor wrecks the whole image beyond repair.
Nearly all of today's cameras are made with CMOS sensors rather than the classical CCD sensor because CMOS offers better image quality and at lower power consumption... But there's a heavy cost…Continue
I recently noticed these cameras in one of my local stores. By the looks of it they are basically built along the same lines as the GoPros. I'm not sure how they compare, but if anyone has any experience with these little cameras, please feel free to post you comments. You can find more info on their website here: …Continue
Hobbyking today added this camera to their catalogue and it seems the perfect camera for FPV, an uncased version of the famous RD32 II. Do a search for it on youtube and you will find nothing then good videos. With a AV out for connecting it to the video transmitter or HDMI to connect it to your HDTV this camera is very complete.
Some of the heighlights of this camera are a 120…Continue
JVC and Sony are taking on GoPro with new small HD "action cams". The shape of these will possibly have much better aerodynamics than the GoPro... more in line with Contour's cameras. Notice JVC's is already "quad proof". I'm sure they had quad copter drones in mind. :)
I'm the secretary for our local St. Louis rocket club: St. Louis Rocketry Association and decided to bring out my Jdrones frame/APM 1 to the launch to do some 2.5.3 testing and at the same time shoot video of some rockets with a GoPro Hero 2. I'm using the Jdrones stabilized camera mount - although I'm still adjusting the camera mount gains and dealing with jello video. The GoPro video was also sent to the…Continue
From the description:
This is my new pan-tilt-roll gimbal for my GoPro HD camera. It is supposed to go onto a remote controlled airplane for FPV and aerial video. The whole mechanical structure was printed (laser sintered) by Shapeways. …
My original blog post offering a bounty on software for the ArduIMU v3 to make it into a very good standalone camera gimbal stabilizer attracted alot of criticism and at the same time alot more support. There are many people who have joined my cause, and pledged to either match my bounty or contribute towards…Continue
I think that we need to restart the blog on this.
This guy built a 40 mm ball turret that would work great in small UAS's. He said that he would not sell it but i think having him post details of how he built would be nice.
Here is a video of tit working.
If anyone has other turret systems to share of Pan and tilt systems please post... I am…Continue
I am known for thinking out the box this proposed project (camera gimbal stabilizer) is similar to something I have been playing around with for a couple of months. it is the serenity gun project simply replacing the gun with a camera & putting gyros between the Pan, tilt servos there is one minor issue this requires a PC to do the image…Continue
Not being overly chuffed with the battery mount on the 3DR and wanting somewhere to mount a camera, I decided to make another layer to the quad. A third plate below the quad seemed idea.
I fished out a scrap of unused fibreglass PCB I had in my goodie box. I took the quad apart to get at the bottom plate to copy as a template.
The normal plates have a series of 3 holes in the middle of each edge which seemed a perfect option to mount stuff. I…Continue
Just a suggestion for those who got affected by the FAA enforcement policies against UAVs used for aerial Photography in LA area, and even if you are not affected by this you can use our telescopic masts that go up to 60 ft high.
No crashes, no more "mayday mayday, my batteries are dying", no police asking questions, no repairs and no parts to be ordered for replacement......
Most of my customers and even myself are…Continue
