"A system that improves the precision of GPS in cities by 90 percent".

"Researchers at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) have developed a new system which improves the ability of a GPS to determine a vehicle's position as compared to that of conventional GPS devices by up to 90 percent, and which can be installed in any vehicle at a very low cost.

The system, which…

99 cent Ublox Container

Found a neat little plastic box at "The Container Store" for 99 cents.  Fits the UBlox LEA 6H in width and height perfectly.  May need to stuff a foam spacer on the length wise side.  Just tried it in the backyard and the GPS got a fix in about 30 seconds - the plastic cover is not adversely affecting the…

New to the ArduCopter world, so here goes.. finished my first hex build a few weeks ago, so have been working on a few cosmetic upgrades.. It's a bit silly but I like the little puck gps modules that DJI has, so decided to make and share a similar design of my own with everyone..

If you have a 3d…

GeoTagging Images on Mission Planner

Introdution

Geo-tagged aerial pictures are very useful for mosaic mapping as well as the creation of accurate 3D models from a terrain.

Michael Oborne added a great tool for injecting GPS data on the EXIF tags by using APM's telemetry log from a flight.

This tutorial was…

Quad copter Autonomous tests

Suggestions on improving flight are welcome :)

Testing the quadcopter in autonomous modes. I normally fly in Stabilize mode but today we tried switching to loiter and then tried to use the mission planner to "fly to here".

I have some work to do on getting it to fly right, yaw seems to react badly to control, yaw right and it gains…

Add a backup battery on the MTK GPS module.

Hello Everyone, we all know our GPS board (the one that comes with the APM1) has no battery to backup data.

This has the disadvantage to make the GPS not very precise in the first minutes after power up and that every startup is a cold startup (at least one minute to get a 3D fix).

This is because the GPS needs find the satellites without a…

ACM Loiter (GPS) Hold Traditional Helicopter

Firstly thanks to Jason for his New Alpha code. 2.0.40. Randy for all the help and Martin who keeps supplying tea

The new control laws that he has implemented work really well. The oscillations have virtually disappeared in stabilise, and Loiter held for over 8 mins with only very slow drift, had to bring the heli back to the start point…

EM406: busted!

Ciao to everybody, just want you to know that today I finally made my EM406, ArduIMU and Ardupilot work together with a simple trick. From http://seniord.ece.iastate.edu/dec0803/manuals/EM-406%20Product_Guide1.pdf we see that the output baud rate of the infamous EM406 is 4800 bps. Adjusting the code for arduIMU, ardupilot to work at 4800 everything works very fast, ever without the "first time" GPS locking… Continue

Ublox operating, but won't get a fix - driving me crazy

1 of my 2 Ublox modules has developed a problem. It refuses to get a fix. I am monitoring it with Ucenter and see that it is operating, it is tracking 7 or 8 satellited from inside my house, but it won't get a fix. I notice that it is getting the correct UTC time, but it cannot tell the date! I assume this is why it can't solve for a fix. I have reset the configuration and performed several cold starts. Not sure what else to try??? Any suggestions?
