[Idea] PiStation : A RaspberryPi based GCS

Hi Guys,

I had been planning on designing an Arduino Mega based GCS for my new UAV running on an APM 1 donated by Martin (from BuildYourOwnDrone). A while back, I had discovered the ARM-based RaspberryPi and for $25, I had something more powerful and capable than a Mega, not to mention its other functionalites. I began to think of designing a…

iPad Ground Control Station

Just wanted to share some progress on an iPad Ground Control Station app I've been putting together for a little while. Here's a quick introduction:

As the video shows, the (non-jailbroken) iPad is hooked up to a Digi XTend radio modem via a RedPark iPad-Serial cable and a…

Autopilot Success - I Am Stoked :)

OK, to explain, i finally got the autopilot sorted and installed in a test plane and all went according to plan, until the wing support failed on my manual flying back to land. what takes away the pain is that it wasn't in my full size plane, that I maidened last weekend successfully with 2 x 8…

Ground Locomotion: Crawling Quadrotors and MultiCopters

One area of multi-rotor UAV research that has been barely scratched is ground locomotion. The definition of ground locomotion is the use of systems built into the flight vehicle to move on the ground, likely without using the flight propulsive systems. Basically, this is what you get when you combine a…

"Team Zyzzyx" SparkFun AVC 2011 Ground Entry

First off, a big thank you to the hardware and software developers of the APM autopilot. Without it I wouldn't have been able to pull off a working autonomous system in such a short time. Thanks as well to Jack Dunkle for helping me out with a late encoder addition.

A couple months ago I saw the SparkFun AVC announcements and decided to enter. I bought parts early, but didn't get it all working right until…

First tests with my Quad

So today I finished building my first quadricopter based on APM+Oilpan and running ArduPiratesNG. I did some preliminary tests inside with no intention of flying the thing in my kitchen but just to get a feel of how it behaves up to the moment it actually would take off.

I noticed a couple of things:

  • Motors don't start to spin all at…

QGroundControl 0.8.3 beta - User Configurable

This video shows how each user can configure the layout and even individual sliders and buttons of QGroundControl for his personal needs. This version is compatible with the current ArduPilotMega pre-release 2.0 codebase from the SVN repository (trunk). Please note that the video shows only a snapshot, not the final QGroundControl 0.8.3 release version (we're still improving it on a daily basis). User feedback is very welcome, if you want to try it yourself you can…

ardupilotmegacomm library now on google code, supports host-side HIL and Binary Protocols for communicating with ArduPilotMega

The ardupilotmegacomm library is successfully sending/ receiving HIL communication and is sending/receiving the standard ardupilotmega binary protocol. yagcs and dronegcs (several ardupilotmega ground stations) both currently use the library. I updated the apmcomm library to fix some bugs and also added hardware in the loop support. I renamed the project from apmcomm to avoid a bunch of misc. hits on google. I have packaged a linux version using cpack -G DEB, but could use a developer on… Continue

RC transmitter with telemetry

Here's a nicely priced Hitec 2.4 GHz transmitter with built-in telemetry. Perhaps an upgrade for our groundstation?

For now, the sensor is only for battery condition but the plan is to have more sensors. Perhaps we can use the data channel as-is..

Features you would like to see in ArduPilot GCS

I am pleased to report that ArduPilot ground station ( LabVIEW ) team is getting up and going.

Our first objective is to clean-up the code a bit, make it more robust, and easier to add new functionality.

Over time request for ground station features have been mentioned in few threads, and I would like to consolidate them in one place.

What ground station features would you like to see or change?

For example:

1. kml logging : log lat,… Continue

Ground Target Tracking with Road Map Support

I found this paper titled "Ground Target Tracking with Road Map Support" written by Daniel Streller (daniel.streller@eads.com).

http://subs.emis.de/LNI/Proceedings/Proceedings110/gi-proc-110-021.pdf (5 page PDF, 161KB)

Its somewhat of a complicated read but very interesting as well.

The UAV I am planning to build will have alot of onboard memory which I will use to store road data from a automobile GPA system. This data will be used to properly find waypoint by… Continue
